THE "New" CBS BUSH DOCUMENTS: Let's do some investigating
www.freerepublic.com | September 9, 2004

Posted on 09/08/2004 9:16:02 PM PDT by Howlin

These are the NEW documents "discovered" by CBS with conjunction with their Ben Barnes expose/confessional tonight regarding George Bush's National Guard service.

They've gotten some interesting comments on the Live Thread, so I thought I'd give them their own thread so you people out there with the knowledge can dissect them for their accuracy/truth/existence.

I wasn't in till '79. I didn't even see an electric typewriter till ... hmm. Don't think I ever did. I was using manuals at least around '86.

Unless somebody knows for sure, I doubt a TANG unit would have an IBM electric available at the unit level.

Has anyone actually opened up MS Word, set the font to Times New Roman 12 pt, typed the memos verbatim and then turned them into PDFs? Compare them side by side with the ones being put out there now...

I typed in the 18 August 1973 memo. I haven't turned it into a PDF, but it looks identical. You just have to remember to use two spaces after periods to get the same word wrap. Two spaces after periods is pretty standard for anyone that was taught to type on a typewriter.

I did this for the August 18th memo. However I overlayed them in Adobe InDesign so that one appears behind the other in a see-thru fashion. The results?

It matched EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are so freak'n busted.

Drudge just put it up.
Also, Ruch just mentioned that people are questioning whether these are forgeries briefly. He asked why weren't these brought forward earlier?

Some dude at Little Green Footballs did it, and it's a dead ringer using the default settings. Double spacing after periods is a MS Word default, as is the autocorrect superscript.

Has anyone done any other memos and superimposed them?

Now, how do we get this to the public? It's all well and good for us to know this, but it won't do a damn bit of good if the rest of the country doesn't know it!

i spent 19 years as an admin "weenie" beginning in 1969 in Turkey and believe me, you always left justified the signature block. and i did work for logistics at one time - HQ AF/LGXX! I truly believe these memos are bogus...

When I say they're exact I mean they are EXACT!!!! I superimposed the 8/18 memo on top of the one I created and they instantly became one. The letters matched perfectly.

Hold it. catherine yronwode? As in the one discussed here:

Given the usenet post is from 1995, it's probably just a coincidence, but still, it's odd.

Dude, that's pretty cool. Can you get an image of that up on this thread, or an animation of the process? (Think network news piece!) Tall order, but it's pretty doggone damning. Nice work.

The handwriting "expert" that validated that this signature is authentic ... should probably find work in and other field ... and a really good Optometrist

The thing is if I posted the overlay then you can't tell that it is actually an overlay. The one underneath completely disappears. I don't know how to animate the process. I will tell you what I did:

Macintosh OSX 10.2
Microsoft W v.X

12pt Times New Roman
Letter body width: 6"
Turned off Auto numbering for lists
Single space
Double sapce after periods.
