Who Were CBS's Sources?
ratherbiased.com ^

Posted on 09/12/2004 7:22:25 AM PDT by dougNYC

September 12, 2004, 03:49:00 EDT With everyone who cares about the Memogate controversy mostly having formed an opinion about it already, both new and traditional media have focused their attention on the next question: who gave the documents to CBS? In a memo to CBS affiliates last week which RatherBiased.com has obtained, the network said the disputed documents "were provided by unimpeachable sources."

Over at the liberal grassroots site IndyMedia, Pablo Kristophoros says that the disputed memos cited by CBS are in author Kitty Kelley's upcoming book The Family : The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty.

"The full details of George Bush's military service are in the new book by Kitty Kelley by the good offices of the Texas Veterans for Truth. This group has offered a large monetary reward for anyone who served in the Alabama Air National Guard with George W. Bush, but there have been no takers. There is a wealth of details in the 736-page book, and one of the over 800 sources is the Texas Veterans for Truth. Killian's memos and other information are there. The CBS memos are real and the proof is in the details."

If source is the Kitty Kelley book, it makes sense that CBS would pre-empt the release of the book with this info. The good news is that the accuracy of that book is already being called into question - see Sharon Bush info. Bad news is that all of this fraud business is in fact stealing airtime from the swifites, vvak, Kerry's senate record, etc. If the rathergate thing plays out as a gaffe on CBS part, CBS will continue to lead the downward spiral of the MSM. CBSers polish your resume's!

More likely is that Dems will use this to call into question the rest of the Bush mil records. This could very well open a can of worms for the Bush campaign - there is a lot of runway if the authenticity of all the Bush mil records are called into question.

I don't know enough about the Bush Mil records to make any claims - merely speculating on possible next moves on the great chess board of the campaign.

Why would someone type a memo to himself and then add his own signature to it? Did he want to assure himself that he actually typed it? Do people in organizations commonly do this?

Who cares even if records are fake or real (although probably fakes). Bush had approval t be in non-flight unit from 5/26/72 to 7/21/72. No flight physical record sine unit he transfered to had no planes. See beleow link:

Then Kerry would have to produce his yet-to-be-seen records. Not bloody likely, in my opinion.

I have heard that unlike Clinton's book, advance copies of Kitty Kelly's book have been made available to the media. If this story was in that book, we would have heard it already.

CBS's sources were the Wilson family of Cleveland's dog Buster, a Ouija board, and some cave paintings in southern Romania.

That's what I was wondering too. It's like putting my signature on my grocery shopping list.

"Why would someone type a memo to himself and then add his own signature to it?"

Memo to myself: Next time I type a memo to myself, I won't sign my own memo to myself. It might raise suspicions that I didn't really type a memo to myself.

A poll came out yesterday--18% or respondents said that Bush's NG record would negatively affect how they voted. IOW, BFD. Let the dems crow all they want--it's falling on deaf ears and will hurt them in the end.

I agree with you--there's too much news right now, but it's all good for Bush. Too much to bash Kerry with, too little time to do it. Sounds like good problems to me.

actually just the opposite. All records used to accuse bush of anything bad are now suspect. "Was this accusation a lie too?"

Bush is wise to stay away from the forged memo arguments and just say peole have decided for themselves.

Well... probably not. Seeing as how the other military records came from state and federal military archives, I'm pretty sure that they'll be safe from any realistic debate. Amazing how life is giving you lemonade, and you're managing to squeeze it into lemons here... This is a gift to any campaign, to have a raucous criticism turned into an obvious partisan fraud by those who are the loudest critics. Even Michael Moore would have trouble making this a negative for the President.

Absolutely, well above the fray Bush is incredibly Presidential in light of all this. Every jab by Kerry just makes Kerry look like well... Kerry.

Curioser and curioser.
This should go over well with the I-read-it-in-a-book-so-it-must-be-true crowd. You know, the ones whose lips move when they read?

Since Kitty Kelly is not likely to have cobbled up such an amateurish fraud, we are gathering conspiracy evidence here. Maybe RICO...

CBS 60 Minutes Hit Piece on Bush

http://img41.exs.cx/img41/5551/60minbusted.swf (GREAT OVERLAY PIECE)

The most important thing you can do is to contact CBS and voice your disgust about Dan Rather.  Second, about CBS's anti-Bush taint, and third, send media links to the controversy to the advertisers and lodge a complaint with the advertisers that they must repudiate the 60 Minutes hit piece.

Complain to CBS advertisers.  Most of these are advertisers that were involved with the 60 Minutes slam on Bush, but hey, complain to them and ask for them to pull their advertising from the Bush Hating CBS...

Standard PR response is that they don't know where / when their ads will run.  JUST LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU DON'T ACCEPT THAT THEY CAN'T MAKE A REQUEST, OR THAT THEY CAN'T ABSOLUTELY INSIST THAT THEIR ADS NOT BE SHOWN IN POLITICAL HIT PIECES.  THEY'RE THE CUSTOMER AND THEY'RE ENTITLED NOT TO HAVE THEIR REPUTATION SMEARED!
