Here in the LA Times report above:
The network's new reporting will be wrapped up soon, perhaps this weekend or early next week, Howard said. More sources have come forward in recent days, and CBS is leaning on its original sources to see if they will go on the record, he added.
In the Washington Post:
In a related development, White House press secretary Scott McClellan hinted that more documents regarding Bush's National Guard service may soon be released. Asked whether officials in the White House have seen unreleased documents, McClellan called that "a very real possibility." Other officials with knowledge of the situation said more documents had indeed been uncovered and would be released in the coming days.
In Jim Geraghty's Kerry Spot
PIERCE TELLS REPORTER CBS GAVE HIM 'LOTS MORE DOCUMENTS' [09/17 08:58 AM] Just exchanged emails with Garry Moon, columnist for the Athens, Ga. Banner-Herald. He shared a stunning bit of news with me, and said he wanted Kerry Spot readers to know, since he doesnt know when his column is going to run in the Banner-Herald. Moon managed to contact James J. Pierce, the fourth expert that CBS has cited as one of its experts verifying its documents.
--snip
- The (for me) stunner: Pierce said that the reason he hadn't rendered a final conclusion yet was that he was only midway through his analysis of all the documents - speaking as though there were many docs. CBS gave you other documents besides the four that 60 Minutes used in the story? Lots more documents were his exact words.
BTTT
That's obvious.
You forgot to add that Bush didn't need a flight physical since he was transferring to an Alabama base with no planes.
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. If they have other documents, these are probably the reason why Rather/CBS are sticking to their guns, they have to keep on doing it, until they think they get it right, and that is, they are hoping the information will bring down President Bush. They don't seem to realize that any new documents will be even more heavily scrutinized, and we, the populice, will be even more skeptical.
Will not matter if they are written on stone tablets. The damage is done. See-BS! is run by fools.
They could have said "Whoops! Thank you for bringing that to our attention. We will have all documents more throughly vetted in the future." Then when they came out with new documents they could say, "Check them out all you want, these are real. We made sure of it." The implication would be that they had learned from their mistakes. There would be some damage but not much. But after the way they handled it the first time no one will believe them now.
But then again this is Dan Rather we're talking about...
The documents McLellan was talking about have already been released, I think--they're the ones that included the letter from the President's father.
As to other "original sources" they might be leaning on--if they're as "original" as the last sources, it should be fun proving those, too, are forgeries.
Very clever of CBS to flush their credibility and ratings down the toilet before breaking out the "good stuff"... very clever, indeed!
After all, they elected a real draft-dodger as President, and a guy who really did receive special treatment in the military as VP. (Gore basically had a bodyguard while he served as a military reporter in Vietnam). Then that same VP went on to win the popular vote. (Thank goodness the election does not turn on popular vote).
It should be abundantly clear to intelligent people in both parties that allegations that someone was treated better than the average schmoe because of who their father was will not have much effect. Now that evidence for such charges has been proven to be forged, this stuff will do Kerry no good.
I can't believe this guy Peirce is still on the case. It actually gives me hope.. but he is the only cited expert they haven't had turned on them. He is hiding and looking at a stack of stuff.
I genuinely hope that it turns out that all of this derision is enough. I just can't help think about the meme that the Swift Boat Vets have been largely discredited.. that is said everywhere in the press despite them being proved very accurate.
Cool!!! do you have a link?
He did NOT go to Paris and consort with the enemy. He did NOT dodge service. He did NOT attack his fellow Guard members and call them war criminals.
Whatever his past, he became a good and decent man who takes the safety of this nation to heart. I absolutely do not care if they produce documents that show a cocaine-addled Lt. Bush took a girlfiend to Tijuana. It has NOTHING to do with what we are dealing with today.
(Remember its the content of the document, not its veracity that matters.)
I will bet they (C:BS!)have spent the last week working up forgeries on a typewriter that would have been used back in the 70's. If I were a student of journalism or a journalist- even a respectable American-, I would be storming the offices of CBS demanding Dan Rather be fired at a public forum. This is so damned obviously a fraud and coverup, with such deep and high-ranking connections, it makes Enron, Arthur Andersen, and Iran-Contra the stuff of a PBS children's program. (Though I won't comment on the damage PBS has done to children...)
What irks me further is the relative silence from CBS. It DOES NOT take this many days or weeks to review the authenticity if these documents and come to an honest and forthright conclusion about them. So keep digging, Danny boy. But the disservice and fraud you continue to propogate against journalism, the search for truth and justice- indeeed, the basic foundations of western democracy- now simply expose the intellectually vile flesh and guts of a man we always knew of who tries to hide behind the skin of an objective reporter.
The first 4 documents were just a test run - by now they've figured out how to make really good forgeries and maybe even bought themselves an old typewriter on ebay.
And, all of the charges being screamed by the Kerry camp of jokers are being all lumped together with this pack of papers... it has been glorious. If CBS keeps this up another week, still insisting on the authenticity of the original documents and if they do try to give us more MS Wordstuff... that would be the best.
"CBS is leaning on its original sources to see if they will go on the record, he added."
I just read on another thread that Dan Rather has been spotted on a Texas flight. These guys are not ready to quit and the next round of "documents" will probably be better forgeries. In the mean time, he needs to get a few other faces to stick in front of the camera who will stand with him in this Texas Tall Tale until the end....[may it come soon.]
I just don't understand. The media keeps harping about Bush's records but gee whiz Kerry still has several pages of his military service records that have not been released.
