I don't think it's weakening. The good thing is that it doesn't look like it's strengthening.

By the report on the central pressure, it IS strengthening -- down 5 mb since the prior report at 2pm. Here's the NHC's discussion at 5pm:
"INITIAL INTENSITY IS KEPT AT 100 KNOTS BUT MAY NEED TO BE UPDATED WHEN A NEW DATA FROM A RECONNAISSANCE PLANE BECOME AVAILABLE. ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE AND CATEGORY FOUR INTENSITY AT LANDFALL IN FLORIDA CANNOT BE RULED OUT."

Anybody with a laptop and (normally) a cable/DSL connection might want to use an AOL or other dial-up "free" now while you have power - later - assuming you have phone service you may be able to get net access when cable/dsl users are in the dark. Critical email and FReeping could be a lifeline!

Sigh Gabz, aren't you just feeling so badly for the family and friends you have there? I feel burdened FOR THEM for the misfortune they are going through. I've lived in FL before and I can't imagine going through it over and over again. I went through Andrew and one was enough! We were set to go there in the spring and stay with my godmother in Vero Beach. We might delay it now because we don't want to strain them if they are still recovering.
