KEYWORDS: 1953; communism; gpo; josephmccarthy; mccarthy; testimony; transcript
History buffs may find this interesting. I came across it when looking at the American Rhetoric 100 Greatest Speeches site. At the bottom of the page for the McCarthy-Welch Exchange: "Have You No Decency,"

in small print are the words

"See Also: Recently released 'secret transcripts' at: http://www.gpo.gov/congress/senate/senate12cp107.html"

This may not be widely known for those who follow this topic. The documents indicate they were made public in January '03, but it's not clear when they were posted on the Printing Office site - although the date February 24, 2004 at the bottom may refer to the page in general on which there are other topics.

It's great stuff, isn't it? When the 50-year seal expired last year, there were a few of us here who pounced on this material. What a treasure trove.

For the most part McCarthy was right. But he should have stuck to the commies in government.

"Have You No Decency,"

I think this question ought to be asked to every Democrat or other person who supports (directly or indirectly) the Democrat platform.

Have they no decency? NO, they do not.

It was posted here in the forum over a year ago, with a link to the government printing office. I don't know if anyone has written a review of them. It's a pretty extensive collection which I'm sure will be used in future books about McCarthy and his era.

The Old Media is today's McCarthy. Their accusations and lies define their 'McCarthite' tactics. Actually the realy McCarthy was correct most of the time until the OM destroyed him as they're trying to destroy anything that doesn't cowtow to them, a la the GOP today. There were commies in high positions in the Fed, which McCarthy was trying to week out as there were commies in the NYTimes which the paper supported. Communism and its ideals remain in the latter today.

Pretty amazing how little things have changed: the Republicans are still the good guys, and the libs, though they're more secretive, are still the commie, socialists!
GOP followers are the givers and doers, while the libs are the constant naggers and takers. Will they never be satisfied?
