In closing, prosecutor says parenthood pushed Scott Peterson to kill
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Scott Peterson killed his pregnant wife because fatherhood threatened his "fantasyland" double life as a "rich, successful, freewheeling bachelor," a prosecutor told jurors during closing arguments Monday in his capital murder trial.
Prosecutor Rick Distaso said the fertilizer salesman strangled or smothered his 27-year-old spouse, Laci, in their home on Dec. 23 or Dec. 24, 2002, so he could be free of the lifetime of responsibilities the child would bring.
"He didn't want adult married life. He didn't want Conner Peterson," Distaso said, referring to the child Laci Peterson was carrying.
The prosecutor said Peterson had long maintained two lives — "the perfect husband" in public and in private, a cad grudgingly tolerating his marriage — but the birth of his first child and the expense of raising the boy or paying child support jeopardized the secret side he treasured.

Oh, yes yes yes! Distaso shows pic of smiling pregnant Laci, then says "here is where she would end up" and shows all that was left of the poor soul when the murderer got done with her!
Reminds me of a prosecutor who held up a picture of a middle-aged, kindly-looking lady smiling. Of the defendant, he said, "He turned this (nice picture) into THIS (held up picture of lady bleeding to death in parking lot where she was shot dead over the theft of her purse.)
Very effective, I think!

Hi everyone! I've been caught up in following the election, but I still have one eye open for the guilty verdict, of course. I consider y'all my "homeboys"--okay, and "homegirls"--and we will celebrate the verdict together I hope.
Meanwhile, am checking out Psychesknot... can't wait to hear the details of Geragos' pathetic closing. (It would have to be pathetic--he has absolutely nothing to work with! Plus, he's... him!)

I can't wait for the Blake trial. Altho, it woulda been even better had he not fired Thomas Messarau (sp). That guy woulda gotten him off. He has all the charisma and calm, but especially he comes off as believeable. I'm always amazed when commentators say that Geragos is charming. Yuck! He grosses me out. What a sheister. I'd have to question whether the sky is blue if Geragos told me it was.
What do you think is the real reason he and "Dr. Death" didn't testify?
