Images from the Battle of Fallujah (lest we forget or take it for granted)
Yahoo News Photos ^ | 11/12/04

This thread honors the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, and reminds us of why we here at home can go about our daily business in peace. Street-to-street is the toughest type of warfare. Air cover is being flown by pilots from the USS John F. Kennedy, as well as the U.S. Air Force from bases in the area.

That one made me smile. You know, of course, that the President gave the First Lady a Scottie puppy for her birthday. The puppy arrives at the WH just before Christmas -- and guess who'll probably play with it more than anyone. A new puppy for the First Lady...sure...chuckle.

Good to hear from you, SoCalPol. The Marines are doing one heck of a job in Fallujah, in the best tradition of men like your dad.

It could just be in how you read it, pbrown.

When I read "say it ain't so", I rather smiled. I interpreted it to mean, "Our women should not be in such dangerous positions. We should be protecting them."

In any case, it is not a put-down even if it was not meant in the endearing way I read it. There are just some things a man is much better at. For instance, if I am on the third floor of a burning building and see a ladder propped up, I really hope it is a big strong man heading up to save me, and not a woman. No offense intended, that's just the way it is.

As mentioned, I do understand your point of view, which is quite valid. Just thought I'd gently suggest that there is another, equally valid way to look at it. Perhaps the "alone-ness" of this poor father struck me more than it might others, because I know what it is to be alone in the world. If he is as alone as the photo suggests, I hope the photo caused people who care to reach out and help him.

"Do be aware, that the Marines are a sub branch of the Navy."

Gosh, after all these years I had it backwards!

I heard that GHWB, now that he's retired, has been longing to lay on the WH lawn and play with puppies again.

Because of our brave men and women he can.

Thanks for bringing back an oldie, but a goodie. GWB's beloved Spotty was one of those puppies, and she stayed with our Dubya for 15 years.

That place is desolate.

For all of the green in VietNam, this place is brown.

Since my kids grew up, I don't cook anymore.

I would cook for these young men and women. I love every one of them.
