'We have let things slip, and let extremists live under our noses'
The Telegraph ^ | nov 14 04 | Elizabeth Day

The streets of Rotterdam are silent apart from a whistling wind. Flickering neon signs advertising Halal butchers and falafel bars punctuate the grey facades of the tower blocks.

Splintered glass from a broken window that no one has bothered to repair is slowly trampled into the autumn leaves. In the distance, a mosque's minarets pierce the fog and drizzle.

Almost half the population of Rotterdam is of non-Dutch origin and the city is studded by grim ghettoes. Fifteen-year-old Rafih Bourdin has hunched his shoulders up against the cold. His head is wrapped in a red bandana and covered by a heavy, hooded top that almost entirely obscures his eyes.

Don't count on any legislators, anywhere, ever becoming sufficiently aware of the seriousness of the situation to bestir themselves without an outcry from some part of the constituency that finds its interests compromised. And if this constituency is not sufficiently funded and motivated, their complaints go unheeded. Often some very small minorities, by selectively applying muscle, can succeed in incorporating very radical provisions into the law, and cause the administration of the government power to be so different from the accepted norm that people wake up one day, and ask themselves, how the H*ll did this happen here?

Tim Robbins and Alec Baldwin would have tried to enlist.

It was Van Gogh's fault. He should have driven a bullet proof bike.

We have been too tolerant," says Joyce de Witt, 39, an office worker from Diemen, a town south of Amsterdam. "We need tougher immigration policies. For 20 or 30 years, we have let things slip and let extremists live under our noses.

And we all know how tolerant the Dutch were in South Africa.

"The persecution of innocent Muslim's in foreign countries is unfortunate but inevitable."

Boo-hoo. If I were Dutch, I'd be ready to start the pogroms. Molotov cocktails are a very effective way of saying "you're not welcome here anymore".

Yes, indeed. If there's another terrorist attack in the U.S., we'll be looking to our own non-integrated Muslim population for punishment. As if 9-11 wasn't enough of a wake-up call.

"Islam is a peaceful religion"

The sooner people stop repeating that lie the better. Islam does not teach "peaceful" no matter how badly you mutilate the cults scripture. It's the cult of death. Allah will kill you and enjoy torturing you in hell if you don't do exactly as he says, and that's kill others who aren't muslim. It's the only "religion" in which it's diety spends all his time in hell, stoking fires and torturing his creation. In fact before you are even born, half of it's adherents are predestined to go to hell, no matter what you do in life.
Since the 'god' of Islam spends all it's time in hell, it should give the normal thinking person a good idea who this wanna-be 'god' really is.

All....repeat...all of these world wide attrocities and acts of pitiless cruelty are commited by Muslims....from wheel chair patients thrown overboard to school children executed in their classroom.

The Dutch are immersed in this with a government out of contact with reality

A truth which MSM has proven itself incapable of realizing.
it's always an 'ethnic clash' or 'rebel goups'this and that. They never seem to be able to connect the dots and see that 99.9% of all conflicts are caused by Muslim groups expanding their ground.

FWIW, The high school where I teach shows Channel One. Usually it's pretty balanced in reporting. But they just did a series on Darfur, never once mentioning the nature of the genocide, who's doing it, and why. It was just the government and "rebels". So, I gave them an assignment to research it, not telling them that it is just another of many Muslim wars against infidels, and a racist war of Arabs against blacks. The information is out there in the New Media. I hope they will be sufficiently impressed.

The result?........People wake up one day and learn that half of LA speaks spanish and are illiterate.
Ummm, not to splash cold water or anything but the city of LA has always been a place where 1/2 or more of the place spoke Spanish. For that matter NM, AZ, and parts of TX. Maybe we should prevent the people of PR from speaking Spanish, while we're at it. Should we prevent the 1/8 of the people in the state of LA from speaking French, well Cajun or Creole at least?

"I wonder what the libs would think if a fifth plane on 9/11 hit somewhere in Hollywood."

Well, one thing is certain. As much as we detest their politics and their need to spew them at every opportunity, there would still have been far more compassion for them and their families from most Americans than they ever showed to the victims and families of 9/11, or to the troops who have defended us.

I lived in LA in the late 70's, and half the city did NOT speak Spanish

Agreed. It's not just illegal immigration that's a problem, it's also legal immigration.

I would guess that many of the Muslims living there are peaceful and came to find a new life. It is their responsibility to out the fundamentalist elements within their communities. It is also their job to assimilate and accept Western life. If they do not they have no one to blame but themselves.

No offense but you are off base. LA has not always been a majority of spanish speaking illegals but it is now.

Twenty years ago, Dallas was a decent city..now Dallas and many of it's suburbs are crowded with illegals who not only don't speak english but are somehow afforded free education, medical and the free lunch program.

There is nothing wrong with speaking spanish but honestly, these people have no reason to learn because everything here is IN spanish.

When you move to an endangered state (CA,TX,AZ, with others to follow), you may have a better understanding of the problem that faces our country.
