HOUSTON -- Former President George Bush has suspended a trip to Ecuador because the jet he was going to use crashed Monday morning in Houston.
AP
President Bush spoke last week at the dedication of the Clinton Presidential Library.
Three crewmembers died in the accident during foggy weather.
The private jet clipped a light pole and crashed on the Beltway at Cullen near Hobby Airport.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Roland Herwig says the Gulfstream flight originated at Dallas Love Field.
The planes registered owner is Jet Place of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Former President Bush, who lives in Houston, was scheduled to take part in a business conference in Ecuador.
According to the former President's spokesman, he was on the way to Hobby Airport when he learned a plane had crashed. He didn't know the plane was his until he arrived.
President Bush had flown with the three crewmembers before and he released the following statement: "I am deeply saddened to learn of the plane crash this morning. I have flown with the crew before and knew them well. I join in sending my heartfelt condolences to each and every member of their families."
The FBI is sending an investigative team to Houston as a courtesy, but FBI spokesman Bob Doguim says there is no reason to believe foul play was involved in the crash.
Yes, the statement made by his office confirms this.
The FoxNews report about a half hour ago said that former President George HW Bush was scheduled to either be on that flight, or another one later, but he changed his schedule--I'm not remembering exactly what it was, but I recall wondering if this was deliberate...
I have one carrier trap on the Bonnie Dick. Even in the COD PAX seat it was like practicing bleeding!
It sounds like pilot error. Given that it's Nov. 22, I hope so, although my heart goes out to the crew. We don't need any more conspiracy theories swirling around.
The plane was on it's way to pick up FORMER President Bush to go to a conference in Ecuador.
Yes, prayers for all concerned, and for 41's safety.
I'll bet that NTSB team will soon have augmentation from the U.S. Secret Service. I doubt they're conspiracy theorists, but they also don't believe in coincidences.
"Electic": noun, computer virus found in blue state voting machines.
Did you hear it was Bush 41 & Co. that had chartered the plane and were familiar with its crew.

HOUSTON - A private jet that was en route to Houston to pick up former President Bush (news - web sites) clipped a light pole and crashed Monday as it approached Hobby Airport in thick fog, killing all three people aboard.
LOL! Hey, this is Freerepublic, we don't have an conspiracy theorist around here!
Just sit back and enjoy this will be a fun day now! (I'm going to the store to buy an extra roll of tinfoil. C'ya later!)
The crashed aircraft was supposedly going to ferry Bush 41 to Ecuador for a conference, presumably a conference held under the auspices of the government down there and/or the US government. Since this was "presumably" an official function, why would an ex-President be using privately-chartered transportation to get to the event? If one-star general military officers and lowly congresscritters are authorized to use "VC"-type US government-owned VIP aircraft for official trips, shouldn't a former President rate the same treatment as well?
Did the downed aircraft have a US government tail number? And why was GHWB flying essentially commercial on government business?
no, Bush 41 was going to Ecuador for a business meeting, NOT an official gov't thing. So, I private jet makes sense
Boy, you know how to ruin a good conspiracy theory, don't you? ;)
Typical of the Chronic: print "facts" without checking. The distance is closer to 3-3/4 miles. Couldn't the reporter at least have looked at a map?
That one was in the 35-40 million range
No, but the plane was to pick up George HW Bush and take him to a conference in Ecuador
