Last year, school officials told 9-year-old Jonathan Morgan he couldn't give classmates Christian-themed candy canes at his elementary school's "winter break" party.

On Thursday, a federal judge told him he can.

U.S. District Judge Paul Brown in Sherman ordered the 52,000-student Plano school district to let students distribute "religious viewpoint gifts" at school parties scheduled for Friday.

great. The kids should be allowed to share their religious holidays...Christian, Jewish, Kwanza, Buddhist...etc. That might start a little more tolerance for everyone.

This will probably go to a higher court. Although, it is great that Texas courts are sticking up for the kids.

Not likely. If you had read the story, you would know that this was in US District Court and that the US Justice Dept has begun investigating the Plano ISD policies. It is not in the district's best interest to pursue this to US Circuit Court and higher just as US DoJ has begun to roto-root their system.

This sounds like a good idea until a Muslim parent sends his kindergartener in with chocolates wrapped in labels that say "There is no God but Allah, and Mohammad is his prophet." Then they can complain that the other parents don't respect the five-year-old's wish to share his faith with his friends.

So let him send the kids with those chocolates. Any grade school kid worth his/her salt should be able to defend what they believe in.

I live close to Plano, Tx and I have to say I'm so glad that the kids get to bring religious gifts to school tomorrow! What is really sad is that the high school's in Plano are locally called the Pharmacy's because of all the drugs that run through the school. Plano has more kids who dies of drug over doses, suicides, etc... than any other city around here. Think that there is something going on in Plano? Yeah, they try and push God out and look where it gets them!

I'm with you. The kids can take the messages home with them, which should open up some good discussions about their faith and why they believe what they believe.

It's not a state court.

Despite one victory the fight needs to continue! Here is how you can Contribute!
You can join the fight against the ACLU and their ilk by becoming involved with and supporting the following organizations:

American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) - http://www.aclj.org

The Rutherford Institute - http://www.rutherford.org/

Here are a few examples of how two of those organizations are fighting back:

So, OK, freedom has its challenges and its costs - but it sure beats the alternatives.

Yes, arguing about religious dogma with people of other faiths is a really great way for grade schoolers to make friends with one another.

The kids should be allowed to share their religious holidays...Kwanza,

That's not a religious holiday.

It's communist proaganda and never even pretends to be religious. The sex deviate criminal who started it never claimed it was religious.

This district also got hammered a few years ago when they blocked parents from distributing flyers opposing a new math program that they were putting in place. The district administration is pretty arrogant.

Ahem, just which religion does Kwanzaa represent or is associated with?
