Was eating lunch and missed the reporter's name, but after noting that US Supreme Court Chief Justice Reinquist is ill and probably will have to retire, she then stated that "confirming his replacement is expected to bring Senate business to a grinding halt."
Not only haven't the Dems gotten the message yet about November's elections, they appear to be unfazed. Looks like the Repubs may have to "go nuclear."
Every Senator who walks out, etc, should be horse-whipping, tarred and feathered, and run out of DC forever!
GET BUSY AND EARN YOUR PAYCHECKS YA BASTIDS!
Repubs may have to "go nuclear."
Let's hope they're up to it.
Actually, you may be on to something. If a Senator walks out to protest a Bush SC nominee, strip him of his seniority. Give him a small office. Withhold his pay. Take away his perks. Take him off committees. Make an example of a few, and the rest will fall back in line.
Grid Lock is Good!
Let's hope they're up to it.
Don't bet on it.
Considering the treasonous bunch of thieves that make up the Senate, shut down is the correct state for them.
Wish it was permanent.
But, but, but...that might cause the NY TIMES to write nasty articles tut-tutting about the GOP's "partisanship" and give Linc Chafee the vapors. Plus, it might antagonize Sen. Hatch's "good friend", Senator Kennedy
Theodore B. Olson for Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court
The republicans will still be standing around a year from now trying to figure out what to do. A self inflicted wound of, gee whiz, what do we do now attitudes. They lack the killer instinct to do anything out of fear.
I agree.
Enough of this delaying tactic by the Dems.
Every judicial nominee (regardless of who's in the White House) is entitled to a fair hearing and a straight up or down vote.
Frist should go nuclear if the Dems won't allow a vote!
The text does not match the headline.
Bringing business to a grinding halt may simply mean all other biz is on hold until this is finished.
Which is prolly how it's going to happen.
I don't believe Sen. Frist is a wartime Consign-- um Senate Leader.
So what Senator do you really think is most likely to pull the nuclear lanyard, Congressman Billybob?
There is NO way the Reps will go nuclear. They are a bunch of girlie men. We need a Warrior class of leaders who cherish Liberty and Freedom as ideals worth dying for. The current Reps are absolutely spineless. I don't know how Bush will get anything he wants with such weak men.
Right you are. Thus, I predict it will be business-as-usual from the Senate Republicans (cowering in the corner while 41 Dems call the shots).
I wish we could return to the governor of each state appointing their senate seats. It would give us term limits and campaign finance reform all in one package.
I get sick and tired of idiots like Hanoi John yanking down 150G's PLUS perks, bennies, etc, and they come to work about 25 percent of the time. 99% of America (those who work anyway) would be CANNED for that behavoir.
WHY DO WE TOLERATE IT FROM POLITICIANS!
Somebody get a whip...
I don't think there is a single man in the whole chamber, with them being brainwashed with compromise.
