Was eating lunch and missed the reporter's name, but after noting that US Supreme Court Chief Justice Reinquist is ill and probably will have to retire, she then stated that "confirming his replacement is expected to bring Senate business to a grinding halt."
Not only haven't the Dems gotten the message yet about November's elections, they appear to be unfazed. Looks like the Repubs may have to "go nuclear."
The Republicans in the Congress are in hardly a more disagreeable position...
If they go Nuclear and somehow lose, they face gridlock and will lose the Senate in 2006
If they dont go Nuclear and face gridlock, they will lose the Senate in 2006...
If the Democrats block, this could get interesting very quickly. There are other things to do besides the SC justices. And while they are debating it or philibustering it, people in the real world will continue without due process because it isnt just the SCOTUS that is going to have nominees....but the different circuit and appellate justices as well....
Oh, don't rain on their parade here. They are in such a girlie-macho hissy fit right now!
Frist wouldn't even entertain senate rules(law) to Kerry's being MIA from the senate for years. His pay should have been witheld and he should have been arrested.
Good ol fashioned American ingenuity there.
Best use of no longer needed assets I'd say...........
This will be a simple pass or fail test for any Republican who wants the nomination in '08.
Yes.
And all those recess appointments GWB finally made just a few months ago....all those have to be confirmed or re-appointed now.
Strategically, they need to keep it going. I dont know if Frist has the cojones to do it...
Dibs on Kerry and Kennedy :)
Most of them are just fine. But we have 55 votes in the Senate. We can't afford to lose more than five on a rules change vote. I would love to hear your secret formula for holding Chaffee, Snowe, Collins, and Specter in line.
The good news is, maybe we can win without them. I have a hunch Frist will go nuclear if he has the votes to win.
You mean treat them like any other paid employee? Why not! Maybe we can get some real work done in Congress once we get rid of the slackers. Great idea.
I get Boxer and Feinstein!
HEH HEH HEH
Even that wouldn't have to be so bad if the Republicans would get a spine and force the filibustering democRATs to wage a REAL filibuster.
That would mean that the rest of the Senate's business comes to a halt while someone drones on and on about something "germane" like the contents of the phone book from East Mudhole, Calipooia. Anyone leaves, the head of the Senate sends the sergeant at arms to go bring him back to the chamber for a roll call, even if it is 3 AM.
Wouldn't that really gravel the likes of Kennedy and "leaky" Leahy?
If the left-wingers are so unable to accept no longer being the majority party that they're willing to initiate a full-blown constitutional crisis, then I predict they'll continue to be beaten like a drum in election after election after election.
Amen Brother! I believe it was Mark Twain that said, "No one's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session." If not, he should have!
Dear GOP SENATORS,
PLEASE GO TO 7/11 AND BUY A TRAINLOAD OF GONADS AND SOCK IT TO THE DIMRATS.
Or forever hang your heads in shame.
I'm inclined to agree with you!
GRID LOCK IS GOOD ............. would be a good cheer!!!
What's wrong with Ann Coulter?
