Gallup Ping
FReepmail me if you want to be on or off the list.
As heard on the Rush Limbaugh show last week, we've learned from Sec. Powell's remarks that the first person the President of Thailand heard from was George W. Bush. Some press nimrod made note that we hadn't heard a press release about that.
There you have it: INSIDER SYNDROME. Too lazy to do the leg work, the press assumed (in the full meaning of the word, thank you Felix Unger) that since GWB didn't call a press conference to tout his action, as we'd expect from the normal politician, that nothing happened. Series, the press dood was bemoaning that there wasn't a press release and he got tripped up. Unbelievable. Well, GWB was too busy acting on the problem to worry about taking credit. How refreshing and how understandable that once again Old Media misunderestimates GWB.
If you want some scoop on how the UN is helping, check out The Diplomad's blog or do a keyword search on Diplomad here on FR.
DUmmies will be mourning the stupid Americans who approve of him acting efficiently rather than following Koffi in sheeplike fashion. DUmmies like collectivism, and disdain someone who sees a problem and acts rather than waiting for orders from the first among equals at the UN.
If this story was reported in the MSM, the DUmmmie spin would be that Bush reacted *too fast* and didn't spend enough time consulting with the Democrats before he contacted the President of Thailand.

Not entirely accurate. May I suggest: as we came to expect during the self-aggrandizing Clinton Administration.
As heard on the Rush Limbaugh show last week, we've learned from Sec. Powell's remarks that the first person the President of Thailand heard from was George W. Bush
I think that is worthy of it's own thread. (first time I heard of this)
The AP-Ipsos poll conducted 3-5 Jan shows George W. Bush's overall job approval at 49%. There is a real possibility that he will make history and be inaugurated with a majority of the population in disapproval. The sad fact is that he is fundamentally disliked by a LOT of people, and his response (or lack thereof) to the tsunami won't even show up as noise in the poll numbers.
Around here, we are more likely to pay attention to a Gallup poll than to anything from AP. But since you are a newbie, you may not have realized that.
FYI: 49%-49% is NOT a majority either approving or disapproving and 52% is a MAJORITY.
Does anyone else smell ozone?
When did Gallup become credible ? Did I miss something while I was sleeping ?
( Not that I believe the AP either..... )
If the AP told me it was raining, I would look outside and see for myself before I would believe them.
I think I do.
I don't put a great deal of credence in any polling for any purpose (look how poorly most of the pollsters did in the recent election, even with exit polling), but even so, I think that many people approve of President Bush -- he was the first incumbent since President Reagan to get a majority of the popular vote -- and his handling of the recent tsunami crisis has been excellent.
The ill-considered mouthings by Mr. Egeland have backfired as far as I can see, and Americans of every stripe have taken umbrage at what was a silly swipe at our generosity.
I think that all Americans approve of the President's handling of the tsunami disaster relief, particularly since his take-charge, get-it-done actions resulted in the very rapid formation of a coalition of the regional powers that did get it done. I haven't read any criticism that I remember of the President from these shores, though I am sure that some loony-lefty of the Ted Rall stripe has printed something criticizing our President. If there is any shred of credibility to any polling efforts, I am sure that these polls will reflect the popularity of the President's actions.
As long as you're picking and choosing pollsters, best toss out Mitofsky as well, and be glad this isn't the Ukraine.
