Assemblyman Jeff Stone (R-Greenfield) has been pestering the Milwaukee Election Commission to report how many people registered at the polls on November 2. Initially, they reported to him on Wednesday that about 8,000 people registered at the polls that day, out of about 255,000 votes cast, about 380,000 voters registered as of the September election (and an estimated 20,000-30,000 registrants between that point and the cutoff point for preregistration), and 565,000 residents (including about 430,000 adults) in the city. Now, they report a few VERY disturbing things:

• 84,000 people registered at the polls on November 2.
• 10,000 people, despite filling out illegible registration cards, were given ballots.
• The other 74,000 registrations have yet to be verified through mailing a confirmation to the address listed.

A couple of things to point out. First, President Bush lost the state by about 12,000 votes. Second, there are now more registered voters in Milwaukee than there are adults in Milwaukee.

I am absolutely convinced that the Dems stole Wisconsin's electoral votes in 2004 and in 2000.

Same-day registration must end. More importantly, a requirement that a voter present a driver's license (or a state-issued "non-driver's license" for those who don't drive), and that the license numbers be keyed in to prevent multiple voting, doesn't seem too opprobrious to me.

Not that I, as a resident of North Carolina, am in any position to criticize Wisconsin's setup. The procedure here is to state your name and address, period. You are then good to go with your vote. The potential for abuse is obvious: I could pick a name out of the phone book, remember the address, and vote in a precinct on the other side of the county -- and then go to my precinct, and cast a "legitimate" vote.

Why are there more safeguards involved with my purchase of a book from Amazon.com than there are with my vote? Which transaction is more important?

Slight problem; in Wisconsin, once their sentence is up (both jail and probation), they're back on the voter rolls. What you can do with convictions is bar them from public office (and there's a few of those that need to be prosecuted).

In Oklahoma all absentee ballots are required to have the voter's signature notarized. They are tossed if submitted without notarized signatures.

That's the way they do it here in Montana as well. I voted absentee in 1990 at the Clerk & Recorders Office and the County Clerk notarized my ballot for me before I voted.

Unfortunately, until we're able to change the laws in Wisconsin, it's going to be nearly impossible to prevent this type of fraud, and the RATS know it! We had armies of pollwatchers, HAVA pollwatchers and HAVA attorneys watching everything on election day. Some of the same-day registrations were challenged, but for the most part, not much we can do, legally, because of the lenient laws. Attempts to get voter i.d. through have been vetoed by our RAT governor, with an insufficient number supporting the legislation to override the veto.
