A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

A bit of eye candy for the guys as we feature the President's delightful twins - and their radiant mom - and what they're wearing to the ball this year. The sketches have made the news in many publications, but I can't wait to see the real deal. Heads will surely turn this year!

From the cute and spunky teenagers of four years ago, both Barbara and Jenna have grown into beautiful and mature young women who campaigned with their dad last summer and won the hearts of men and women alike at each stop.

All eyes will be on Laura and the twins this week during the inaugural festivities. What they wear to the Inaugural Ball will be the talk of the town for days - scrutinized more than what the stars wear to the Academy Awards - it will go down in the history books as good or bad, or shocking, ho-hum or WOW!

Four years ago, the twins were fresh out of high school, and their gowns were also young and fresh. Pictured at the 2001 Inauguration Ball, left to right, are Barbara, Jenna and the First Lady.

Some style watchers disparaged Laura's scarlet lace gown, because she chose a little-known Texas designer, Michael Faircloth.

This year the First Lady will wear an Oscar de la Renta silver and blue embroidered tulle long evening gown to the inaugural ball on January 20.

The silver-blue tulle gown is embroidered with bugle beads and outlined in Austrian crystals, and is the centerpiece in a wardrobe Mrs. Bush will wear during four days of festivities in Washington, including 10 balls, candlelight dinners, a parade and fireworks.

The president's daughters, Jenna and Barbara, will be dressed by Badgley Mischka, Lela Rose, Derek Lam and Mr. de la Renta for the inaugural festivities.

For the ball on January 20th, First daughter Barbara plans to don a Badgley Mischka pale aquamarine silk chiffon gown with jeweled straps and ruffled seamed skirt.

Badgley Mischka also designed a dress for Barbara's twin Jenna, an emerald silk crepe gown that features metallic leather banding and jeweled insets.

Now for a look at the gowns they will be wearing....and there's nothing ho-hum about these! Which one is your favorite? I'm going with Barbara's - definitely a *WOW* in my book!

To all our FReepers traveling to DC for the Inauguration,
please have a safe trip and a fabulous time, and......

TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES!

Evenin'/Mornin' Billie.

Looks like a labor of love with the graphics you created. And the pledge is outstanding.

We won't be traveling to the Inauguration or going to any of the Balls, but we will be dressing in outfits by Levi (or sweats by Champion if it doesn't warm up soon).

What God Can Do

Read: 2 Corinthians 1:3-11

[God] delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us. —2 Corinthians 1:10

Bible In One Year: Exodus 5-7

They were called the "lost boys" of Sudan. Thousands of them fled the civil war in that country and sought refuge from the chaos and killing. Many had been taught the gospel in churches founded by missionaries, but they knew little of the world beyond their villages.

A National Geographic article profiled one of these "lost boys" who is now resettled in the United States. He told a church congregation that he is grateful for the comforts of the US, but also for the faith he learned through hardship. "Americans believe in God," he told them, "but they don't know what God can do."

In the crucible of testing, we move from theory to reality as we experience God's power. When there seems to be no hope, we may share Paul's feeling of being "burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we [despair] even of life" (2 Corinthians 1:8). But we can also learn, as Paul did, that in the darkest times "we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead" (v.9).

If God has allowed you to be in a desperate situation today, why not reconsider all that the Almighty has done and can still do. By trusting God in hardship we learn what He can do in our lives. —David McCasland

Though weak and helpless in life's fray,
God's mighty power shall be my stay;
Without, within, He gives to me
The strength to gain the victory. —D. De Haan

God is the only ally we can always count on.

Tight Lines

Read: Matthew 4:18-20

Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear. —1 Peter 3:15

Bible In One Year: Exodus 8-10

Fishermen sometimes bestow this blessing on one another: "May you keep a tight line," by which we mean, "May you always have a trout on your line."

As I've gotten older, however, I must confess that a tight line means less to me now than it once did. I get as much enjoyment from fishing as I do from catching.

When I'm fishing, I have more time to walk streamside and enjoy the solitude and silence, and to look for places where fish might be lurking. When I try too hard to catch, I lose too many fish and the enjoyment of the day.

Jesus calls us to be fishers of men, not catchers (Matthew 4:19). My job is to go where the fish are, walk among them, study their habitat, and learn their ways. And then to toss out a line and see if one rises to the surface. There's more enjoyment in that easy effort, and I have better results.

So I want to fish for people, looking for opportunities to speak a word about Jesus, casting here and there, and leaving the results with God. It's more calming for me and for the fish—the folks who might get spooked by my clumsiness.

Thus I now bless my fellow fishers with: "May you keep your line in the water." Or, as another fisherman once put it, "Always be ready" (1 Peter 3:15). —David Roper

White are the fields for the harvest,
Workers are all too few;
Souls are awaiting the message—
Christ still depends on you. —Anon.

When you fish for souls, cast your nets in faith and draw them in with love.

Thanks for this thread, Billie. I think the green dress is the prettiest, but I like the back on the one on the left. They are all going to be stunning! Almost as attractive as the FReeper women in your Ball gown thread;) We'll miss you at the Ball.

And in contrast, let's not forget what Hillary choose to wear four years ago, a leather trench while the weather was freezing rain.

Lovely thread, Billie. All of W's women will look gorgeous for the Inaugural. And President Bush will be so proud of them. I just love how he adores his family, my kind of guy.
