Must Read - Saudi Arabian Interior Minister: Bin Laden is an enemy agent

The idea that Osama bin Laden is an agent of some sinister power is no longer confined to the lunatic fringe; it has been taken up by the Saudi Interior Minister. From the Washington Times, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- The Saudi interior minister has said the world's most wanted terrorist, Osama bin Laden, is an agent of an enemy of the oil-rich kingdom. Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz said, "Bin Laden is the agent of a certain party, no doubt."

Nayef did not identify the suspected party, the daily newspaper Okaz reported Monday.

Hmmm. Whom do you think he might mean?

And Nayef has the nerve to say this despite the fact that as late as November 2003, you could find this sort of thing on the website of the Saudi Embassy in Washington: The Muslims are Required to Raise the Banner of Jihad in Order to Make the Word of Allah Supreme in this World. . . . The Muslims are required to raise the banner of Jihad in order to make the Word of Allah supreme in this world, to remove all forms of injustice and oppression, and to defend the Muslims. If Muslims do not take up the sword, the evil tyrants of this earth will be able to continue oppressing the weak and [the] helpless…

Osama bin Laden, webmaster?

Not exactly mutually exclusive.

Oh no, they're finally on to us. Osama has worked for the CIA for years and President Bush flew then there planes into those twin towers via remote control from the Oval Office.

No, I did not. The folks at jihadwatch.com sourced the article from the Washington Times. I searched the WT site briefly but could not come up with the original story. HTH.

Years ago (college), while watching the weather report on Today, for the fourth day in a row "isolated severe thunderstorms" were shown hovering (if memory serves) in the Mississippi Valley. When I remarked to my buddy that these storms didn't appear to be all that isolated, as they extended for half the length of the river, he said, "by isolated, he meant 'nowhere near New York City'". Sure enough, when those storm systems started to move toward the NE, the weather guy (before Willard Scott) seemed to be pretty worried about it.

Bin Laden acts on his own behalf, but also gets plenty of contributions from other rich sheiks and wannabees in the Kingdom. They're the ones who are trying to overthrow the royal family, even if they're not aware of it (IOW, they may think the money is going to terrorists operating in Iraq, or in Israel, or Afghanistan, or Europe).

People with short memories say the US is corrupt and evil to help maintain the current powers in Saudi Arabia. But they would have also urged that we pull the rug out from under the Shah of Iran.

I'm actually not sure that Bin Laden is trying to overthrow the Saudi royal family.

In a 1/06/05 column published in techcentralstation.com, Tom Schwartz says that there is a definite reltionship between Bin Laden and the royal family.

I think you'll find his article worth a look:

Thanks, great link. While I think there's some good ideas in his op-ed, I also think he's ignoring the fact that the US is going after al-Qaeda all over the world, and that helps keeps the Saudi royals safe (not to mention the fact that they probably have pretty decent security which operates under diplomatic immunity in some countries) by keeping al-Qaeda busy fighting us.

He also unfairly dismisses the unrest in Saudi Arabia, writing that nearly all such attacks have been perpetrated by personnel in police and other uniforms, using official vehicles, with the obvious complicity of "persons unknown" inside the state... dissident Saudi subjects firmly believe al-Qaida enjoys some form of official protection or support from within the royal family. The Wahhabi apparatus is analogous to the SS during the Third Reich, supporting the royal house in a fanatical way; but that it would arrange some kind of phony terror operations to tighten its own grip doesn't make sense. Any official vehicles used would have have been used by traitors or imposters from al-Qaeda -- provided the accounts of official vehicles being used weren't cooked up by the dissidents themselves.

Definitely worth a read though, IMHO, and many thanks for the link.
