During Lent (the 40 days prior to Easter) many Christians follow the practice of giving up something and taking the time to reflect on Jesus' sacrifice of Himself for us.
One group of middle-class believers in a church in the UK decided to live on the minimum wage. Their goal was to identify with those who live on little, to learn the joy of giving, to invite God to change their attitude toward money, and to challenge others in their church to do the same. For their study they chose Isaiah 58.
Afterward, one of the leaders of the group said they learned an important lesson. Living on less "makes you realize just how much you really can give away. It makes you look at what you normally give and realize that it is far from being sacrificial."
What they learned agrees with God's idea of what fasting and sacrificial living are all about. The Lord said to Israel, "Is this not the fast that I have chosen: . . . Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out?" (Isaiah 58:6-7). God was chiding His people because their fasting had become an empty ritual with no concern for others.
Let's give sacrificially to others-not just during Lent but all year long. -Anne Cetas
Your standard of giving is more important than your standard of living.

Good morning
Morning Gail..
Good morning!
Hi Gabz!
It's actually warming up around here.......it's already 51 and the sun is shining. Yahoo!!!!
rain coming in, turning to snow overnight.
I'm ready for spring..
Lord, we have many fine young men and women who are serving their country in these evil times. They are lonely, scared, cold, hot, sleep depraved, hungry and home sick. But they are strong Lord. They are strong in spirit, strong in patriotism and strong in You. Be their rock and their shield my Father.
Give them power over their enemies Lord. May the enemies of our country tremble before your soldiers and may they fear the wrath of Jehovah.
Father, I ask that you place the shield of your Spirit around our soldiers. I ask that you comfort them and guide them in their Crusade to rid the world of evil. Be their eyes and ears Lord and let no evil befall them. Grant our armed forces the power to capture or kill the enemy and return home to their loving families.
Lord, comfort the wounded. Take their pain away and replace it with Your grace. Hold them in Your arms and wipe their tears away. Talk with them and let them know that we all love them and are proud of them and support them. Let no word of doubt come to them from traitors in their own country.
And Father, take our honored dead into your bosom . . .Comfort them in their new duty assignments . . . Make them soldiers of the Lord God . . .And Lord, comfort the ones they leave behind.
Oh YUCK...........
I'm also ready for spring. Unfortunately this region is notorious for late February/early March blizzards.....so I'm prepared for the worst, but hoping for the best.
That's lovely.
Thank you Beachie!
I know, same here..
at least a month and a half left to go..
I see you're covering two days! :o)
Thanks for the coffee and the inspiration!
I remember getting snow on Good Friday one year. (And it was late March!)
Thank you. I actually took the original of this prayer and modified it some (with approval from the owner of course) and created that version to use when I need it. So the inspiration came from someone else, but still a worth prayer.
Good morning, Mayor.
Sun is out today, a treat.
Thank You for the ping.
