This week Move America Forward conducted a "Support the Troops" candlelight vigil across from the home of Steve & Virginia Pearcy.
The Pearcy's you will recall hanged a U.S. soldier in effigy - from a noose with an American flag balled up in the soldier's helmet - above the Iraqi flag of Saddam Hussein as part of their anti-war protest. In the adjacent window they hanged the Palestinian flag.
Despite pouring rain for most of the three hour vigil, several hundred people from northern California turned out to show that Free Speech works both ways - the Pearcy's do not own a monopoly on it, and free speech includes the right to oppose offensive displays that undermine the brave men and women of our Armed Forces.
We owe a debt of gratitude to Mark Williams of KFBK 1530 - Sacramento and Deborah Johns of Northern California Marine Moms for helping Move America Forward make this event a success.

As a kid I always remember Sac water as tasting like sulfur. My parents said it came out of the river tasting great and the treatment made it taste worse. It tastes okay now, but I try to get my supply from a source closer to the snowpack.
I wonder what they would say if a Marine decided to show up at their doorstep to remind them their right to put their hateful, anti-American garbage for all to see comes courtesy of the very people they are attacking?

This goes back to how grateful I was to hear you tell the news media that you were not going to let our troops come home and be treated as they were after Vietnam.
When I heard you say it I thought it was powerful, and when I saw it on TV I knew that THAT was the soundbite of the night. It said everything - and it explained why all those people were out there. All the other issues are secondary... Americans do NOT want to let people like the Pearcy's make our men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan feel anything less than appreciated by a grateful nation.
Who needs "Care Packages" when you can send the troops your love the way the Pearcy's do!
