Pray for President Bush - Day 1622

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ,
Set your hearts on things above,
Where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
When Christ, who is your life, appears,
Then you also will appear with Him in Glory.

Colossians 3: 1-4

Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You today desiring to set our minds on things above, and not on earthly things. We pray that, as we bow before You here in this place of worship, that we will have the mind of Christ. We glorify Your Name, and ask that You hear our prayers.

Father, we lift up our brother, George W. Bush, and ask that You be with him at this moment. Refresh and revive him in body and spirit this weekend, and prepare his heart and soul for the coming week. We are in awe of Your working in the trip to Europe this week, and thank You for progress made, and hearts changed. We know, Lord, that as the people of this country, and the world see him as he really is, that they will be drawn to him because he radiates Your love in his life. We also understand that some will hate him because he is Your representative, and they hated You when You walked this earth. So, dear Lord, we ask that You would protect him from all enemies, both foreign and domestic, both physical and spiritual, and that You will deflect Satan's arrows from him as he comes under attack. We thank You for his bold testimony for Christ, and ask that You would keep him firmly in the Word, deep in prayer and meditation, and keep his mind on things that are noble and right, pure and lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. Grant him the wisdom that he seeks, and guide his every step as he serves this nation, and You.

Bless and protect Laura as well. We are also thankful for the success of her travels, and once again, ask that those who see her, will see the face of Jesus in her. Thank You that we have a Godly couple representing America. Bless their marriage and keep it centered in Your will and Your word.

We pray, dear Lord for our troops serving in harm's way in Iraq and in Afghanistan. Father, at times we forget those brave soldiers who are serving in Afghanistan because we don't hear much of their sacrifice or their success, but we lift them up before You today, asking that You place a blanket of protection over them. We pray for Iraq as well, and ask that You might guide those who are seeking to root out and destroy the evil ones there. We are thankful for the capture of another terrorist cell leader, and we ask, in Your mercy, that You would bring a swift capture of Zarqawi, and all those whose goal it is to destroy everything good that is happening in Iraq. Bless our soldiers and protect them, and bring comfort and peace to their loved ones at home. We also continue to pray for the troops who have come home, that You would ease their adjustments to a life that may be very different from the one they left behind. Thank You, Father, that so many are willing to volunteer to sacrifice their own freedom and ease for the sake of ours.

And finally, Father, we pray for this nation, that You would forgive us our sins, and cleanse us, bringing us back to being a culture of life. We are thankful today for the stay of the murder of Terry Shiavo. Lord, we ask that You would work in this situation, and bring glory to Yourself through it. We ask that people who are unaware of the details might become aware, so that they might see the dark path that this country is on, and pray for its return to the Light of Life. We pray that Your children would rise up on behalf of Terri and her parents, and that those who may be apathetic would understand the import of the killing of those who are disabled. We pray as well, that the holocaust of abortion might finally come to a close, and that President Bush would have the opportunity to select judges who will strictly interpret the Constitution, and thus protect the lives of those who are weak from those who are strong.

We bring all these requests before You today, thanking You in advance for Your answers to these prayers. Lord, we have seen so many answered prayers over the past years for our President and our military, and our nation, and we give You all the Glory for what You have done. In the name of Jesus, who is the Christ we pray. Amen!

Lord, the requests above are worthy. The president's safety and effectiveness, and that of his family, the vice president, Sec. Rice, and all godly in authority at every level in every sphere.

Our soldiers continue to sacrifice all for others. We ask Your blessing on them, and good success to their work.

Another terrorist bombing in Israel. You have commanded to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and to bless Your people Israel, and we gladly do so. May sanity come to Palestinian/Arab/Muslim society at long last. And may Israel, too, find repentance.

Lord, raise up a Nehemiah generation, with a mind to rebuild the walls. For when boundaries are erased, all manner of compromise and confusion comes in. We rejoice that the younger generation is more prolife than we. There are many good signs about, but the opposition is fierce and desperate, and grows increasingly depraved. If all we achieve is pushing the battle line forward a bit for the next generation to take over, we will have done well. But we ask for not minimum, but maximum success, far beyond what we can ask or think.

Raise up Your church to be Your church - called, appointed, anointed to do Your supernatural will. Giving effective witness to the majesty of Your love and truth. Show each one his place and enable him to stand, to Your glory.

A special prayer for the missing girl in Florida. Peace for the family, and her safe return. Florida seems to be the locus of much that is taking place in our battle, and we keep it in mind. And may sanity come to the legions of lost souls entrapped by the spirit of the age, the spirit of individualistic licentiousness. May the spirit of truth, the spirit of reality, save them from their deep pit.

Rescue our culture from that same pit, O Lord, for we have fallen far and cannot seem to get up. Save sinners and clean house. Let healing judgment begin, beginning with the house of God. Deliver us, O Lord, that we may minister to You in higher pastures. To Your everlasting glory in Christ Jesus.

AMEN OHIO AND AMEN ALL!
GRACE AND BLESSINGS TO ALL BRETHREN!

CHAPTER XXXIII.
Of the Last Judgment.
I. God hath appointed a day, wherein he will judge the world in righteousness by Jesus Christ, to whom all power and judgment is given of the Father. In which day, not only the apostate angels shall be judged; but likewise all persons, that have lived upon earth, shall appear before the tribunal of Christ, to give an account of their thoughts, words, and deeds; and to receive according to what they have done in the body, whether good or evil.

II. The end of God's appointing this day, is for the manifestation of the glory of his mercy in the eternal salvation of the elect; and of his justice in the damnation of the reprobate, who are wicked and disobedient. For then shall the righteous go into everlasting life, and receive that fullness of joy and refreshing which shall come from the presence of the Lord: but the wicked, who know not God, and obey not the gospel of Jesus Christ, shall be cast into eternal torments, and punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.

III. As Christ would have us to be certainly persuaded that there shall be a day of judgment, both to deter all men from sin, and for the greater consolation of the godly in their adversity: so will he have that day unknown to men, that they may shake off all carnal security, and be always watchful, because they know not at what hour the Lord will come; and may be ever prepared to say, Come, Lord Jesus, come quickly. Amen.

THE WESTMINSTER CONFESSION

"But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord,
and went down to Joppa."
- Jonah 1:3

Instead of going to Nineveh to preach the Word, as God bade him, Jonah
disliked the work, and went down to Joppa to escape from it. There are
occasions when God's servants shrink from duty. But what is the
consequence? What did Jonah lose by his conduct? He lost the presence and
comfortable enjoyment of God's love. When we serve our Lord Jesus as
believers should do, our God is with us; and though we have the whole
world against us, if we have God with us, what does it matter? But the
moment we start back, and seek our own inventions, we are at sea without a
pilot. Then may we bitterly lament and groan out, "O my God, where hast
thou gone? How could I have been so foolish as to shun thy service, and in
this way to lose all the bright shinings of thy face? This is a price too
high. Let me return to my allegiance, that I may rejoice in thy presence."
In the next place, Jonah lost all peace of mind. Sin soon destroys a
believer's comfort. It is the poisonous upas tree, from whose leaves
distil deadly drops which destroy the life of joy and peace. Jonah lost
everything upon which he might have drawn for comfort in any other case.
He could not plead the promise of divine protection, for he was not in
God's ways; he could not say, "Lord, I meet with these difficulties in the
discharge of my duty, therefore help me through them." He was reaping his
own deeds; he was filled with his own ways. Christian, do not play the
Jonah, unless you wish to have all the waves and the billows rolling over
your head. You will find in the long run that it is far harder to shun the
work and will of God than to at once yield yourself to it.
Jonah lost his time, for he had to go to Nineveh after all.
It is hard to contend with God; let us yield ourselves at once.

C.H.SPURGEON!

SOLI DEO GLORIA!
