Jon Stewart Smells It, Too
Washington Times ^ | March 03, 2005

Posted on 03/03/2005 12:26:24 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

The Democratic dominoes clearly are beginning to fall when Jon Stewart, the host of "The Daily Show," says, "I haven't seen results like this ever in [the Middle East]." As anyone who watches the Comedy Central "news" show knows, Mr. Stewart isn't a serious political pundit, but he is unabashedly liberal both on and off air. And since he commands a fairly large audience of mostly younger adults, he is perhaps as much an indicator of the liberal mindset as the New York Times.

His comments came during a Tuesday night interview with former Clinton aide Nancy Soderberg, who was promoting her new book, "The Superpower Myth: The Use and Misuse of American Might." Unfortunately for Mrs. Soderberg, the host spent the entire interview essentially undermining the very thesis of her book, which, as far as we can tell, criticizes the Bush doctrine of transforming the Middle East.

As a microcosm of the Democrats' dilemma, the interview proved enlightening. One such moment came when Mrs. Soderberg said, "[A]s a Democrat, you don't want anything nice to happen to the Republicans, and you don't want them to have progress. But as an American, you hope good things would happen." To which Mr. Stewart replied, "Do you think that the people of Lebanon would have had the courage of their conviction, having not seen -- not only the invasion but the election which followed [in Iraq]? It's almost as though that the Iraqi election has emboldened this crazy -- something's going on over there. I'm smelling something."

Mr. Stewart should be applauded for his intellectual honesty, as well as his obvious pride in America's accomplishments. Mrs. Soderberg, however, couldn't be deterred from her rank partisanship. Here's one of her more odious comments: "Well, there's still Iran and North Korea, don't forget.

Regrettably, too many Democrats refuse to stop and smell the sweet scent of freedom.

Probably because too many of them wouldn't recognize it if it punched them in the nose.

Speaking of dominos, what's happening in the Middle East seems to be the Domino Theory working our way!

Stewart got it right for once. Usually I can't stand liberals or their shows, but I would have liked to see this one.

nancy soderberg: ""Well, there's still Iran and North Korea, don't forget."

yeah, and you could be wearing a burka, Ms soderberg. You just happen to be living in a free, democratic society.

He may think he's out to counter Rush, but he's more like Michael Moore with a clean shirt...

No, he is not Rush. He is on TV, and his show his 1/2 an hour. He lampoons current events. Watch his show one time if you have a chance. Once you get past the liberal bias, it can be really funny.

It just goes to show why the Democrats are becoming irrelevant, they want America to fail as long as it brings them power. Kinda reminiscent of how the Nazis were happy when the Great Depression hit Germany, all that mattered to them was power, not the good of the country.

Ms. Soderberg wouldn't be wearing a burka if she was living in muzzieland. she'd probably get the daniel pearl treatment because of her religion.

"The Superpower Myth: The Use and Misuse of American Might."

With a title like that, she might as well not even write the book. Misuse? The only misuse I see are liberals who refuse to use it or do everything in their power to stop it. I mean really, that horrible Reagan ending the cold war and getting that wall torn down, communism is gone. Horrid horrid misuse. And that nice man Saddam is gone, Al Qaeda is mush, Bin Laden is being paralyzed daily, that`s if he`s even alive, yes horrid horrid misuse! Castro is isolated, Kim Jong Il is watching his mini azz, laffy Qadhafi gives up his nukes, Hamas is broken, Arafat is worm food, the UN is exposed, yes horrid horrid misuse! Let`s see what would happen if we didn`t use it! Liberals want the psychos to run amok, that`s the only misuse sister. Stupid bimbo.

For one, the Times is not the left wing loonie rag. You're thinking of the Post. :)

While he is fairly liberal, I think his main stance is that he wants to change how the media reports the news. I think what people like about him is that the show manages to cut through the crap of politics, and expose a lot of the hypocrisy that goes on. Also, he does tend to take more shots at Bush and other Republicans, but that might be because they control Congress and the White House...

You watch, in a year or two, the Democrats will actually take credit for all the good that is happening in the Middle East, just as they tried to take credit for Reagan's accomplishments in bringing down the Soviet Union.

11pm EST on Comedy Central. Should be a good interview, as he tends to treat ALL his guests with a good amount of respect, no matter if they are liberal or conservative.

I think so too. And I think it could be very rapid.
