Man Pierces Glasses Permanently On Face
Sooy: LASIK Surgery, Contacts Too Expensive
POSTED: 5:36 am EST March 22, 2005
UPDATED: 10:35 am EST March 22, 2005
A man in Texas who said LASIK surgery was too expensive to correct his eye sight had the bridge of his glasses permanently pierced into his nose, according to a Local 6 News report.
James Sooy was tired of wrestling with his eyeglasses and instead of contacts decided to have a post pierced into his face for permanent lenses. IMAGES: Glasses Pierced On Face VIDEO: Permanent Glasses IMAGES: More strange images featured on Local6.com
"These, you know they are stuck to my face, with the other ones, if they were pulled, they would just come off real simple," Sooy said. "They're easier to work with and there is no safety risks involved."
Obscurities owner and professional piercer Allen Faulkner said the piercing was like any other. Sooy said the piercing fit his lifestyle. Most medical experts warn that many piercing procedures could cause permanent damage. Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.

What happens when his prescription changes? Or if someone gets mad at him and rips one of the lenses off his face?
I think they're put on somewhat like earrings (they aren't permanently attached to the guy's face), so I don't think prescription changes matter. I'd be more worried about it getting ripped out of his face. You think a torn earlobe from a earring hurts, just imagine that thing getting torn off...

Boy have you been living under a rock /sarc
I have a Wired Mag here about computer chips being inserted in the head and a device plugging into the cpu.
So, of COURSE you can have your iPod drilled into your head.

[Well, considering I seem to have my desk chair permanently welded to my ass, I guess the glasses aren't such a big deal.]
It's been done before. This woman glued a couch to her butt.

"These, you know they are stuck to my face, with the other ones, if they were pulled, they would just come off real simple," Sooy said. "They're easier to work with and there is no safety risks involved." I'm here to say that I could get these glasses off this guy's face, and they wouldn't come off "real simple" as his old glasses did.
These would come off with a bit of the bridge of his nose, and he might want to reassess his "no safety risks involved".
For example, I'd stay completely away from bar bets, if it were me...

Yet, again, another proves that to be old and wise one must first be young and stupid.

Unlike Ward Churchill, this guy is an authentic member of a tribe: the Nez Percé.
