Thanks to Jeb helping to show that the GOP isn't serious about stopping judicial activism..

Puhleeeeze. Grow up.

The Bush bros have supported the pro life and sanctity movement more than the last 10 politicians combined.

Jeb faced an extremely tough choice: If he had sent in armed State Police to snatch Terri Shaivo there very well could have been a shootout at the old folks home with even more loss of life than just Terri.

Furthermore, if he had done that, he would have been defying the entire Fla. state court system, the Fla legislature and Fla Supreme Court, the federal Appeals Court, the US Supreme Court, along with other agencies involved.

If one, JUST ONE, of those courts or jurisdictions had voted in favor of Shaivo (especially in the final two weeks) I think he would have sensed some legal support and would have made a move.

But for some fateful reason I cant explain, destiny lined up against Terri.

I also think that her death has opened people's eyes to the sanctity of life, and will in the end push more people toward supporting pro-life positions.

But if you think that abandoning Pres. Bush and Jeb Bush will further your campaign of life, go ahead and cut off your own nose to spite your face.

But I think your nuts.

While middle-age Catholics lean toward keeping abortion legal, voters under 30 are more pro-life: 53 percent believe abortion should be illegal in most cases.

The younger generation knows that they escaped the blade.

The tragedy has at least shown some light on what is happening at hospices. Yesterday I read a story about an old lady in Georgia who was beiong starved by hospice workers at the order of her guardian-grandaughter. She wasn't dying either. Now the pitch made by hospice wass that they dealt only with the dying, but eveidently some hospices take in people who are NOT dying and then help them along.

I will say that I work with younger teens at religious education classes and they are far from being Democrats. They understand the evil and brutality of abortion and are often amazed that people would support such blantant murder of an unborn child. They also understand the importance of God in their lives, as well as the their loving families. They are so serious about learning their faith to aid them in becoming good Catholics, good citizens period.

When politics enters the question, they see the Democrats as anti-God, anti-life and anti-family. They are our hope for the future and I for one am glad.

There are conservatives, even on FR, who think the pro-life issue is a waste of time. They whine about how the 'religious right' has hijacked the conservative movement and claim they could do better without them.

This article is a warning to those conservatives that they had better rethink their position.

...the dims have done it to themselves.

They sure have, Salvation. And let's hope and pray they just keep on doing it.

Of course, they will try to "re-package themselves," in order to fool the gullible. But we should remember that, absent divine intervention, a leopard cannot change his spots.

Hillary!'s campaign for president will be fascinating to watch. She is "repackaging herself" as a person of the political center, even though her entire life history tells us she is a person with devout commitments to progressive Left ideology. That ideology generally states that "the ends justify the means." So if now she is presenting herself as a person who thinks abortion is a "tragic choice," I simply take this to mean she has made a political calculation in order to improve her chances of electoral success. Not for a moment do I believe there has been any real change in her heart WRT "culture of life" issues.

Thanks for the post and the ping!

Earth to Carville, Shrum & Co. - if you want these voters back, quit with the lip service and word tricks and actually work to stop the slaughter of the innocents.

But then, I guess those millions from Planned Parenthood and the rest of the butchers would dry up. Can't have that happen, so they'll continue to try to fool people.

Perhaps you will put me on your "nut list."

I think Jeb blew it. There's an old saw in corporate life--"It's much easier to beg forgiveness than to get permission," used often to justify deviation from some stupid policy.

Jeb should have sent in the State cops (or the FL National Guard.) Your scenario of "shootout at the Hospice Corral" is laughable--except it's repeated often enough that some believe it would actually happen.

Jeb's termed-out, anyway. He had nothing to lose; certainly not his office as Governor.

You and I both know that the courts were wrong. Sensenbrenner has publicly stated that the Tampa Fed, the 11th Circus, and the Supremes were EXPLICITLY wrong in the way they handled the case.

Screw 'em. Send in the Marines and see which Sheriff Fatso dares resist.

If you actually read all the links posted in the Schiavo controversy, it becomes clear that Hospices are not necessarily a good place to go.

Their governance organization has more than a few death-promoters, and this "PVS" diagnosis has a very serious rapid-mission-creep tendency. (At the rate the definition is expanding, by 2050 taking a friggin' NAP will be PVS...)

Generally, those "conservatives" are actually Libertarians.

The Libertarian philosophical foundation is absolutely liberal--frankly, it makes HRC look like a moderate.

They have a fixation with materialism, which is why the "useless eater" appellation is lurking under all their posts on Terri, although they don't dare use the specific term.

Yes, the Church addressed this--when it emerged, back in the era of the French Revolution. Few paid attention, because most thought it was merely the Church defending Her own "territory." But that was not the Church's intent.

The memo advises Democrat candidates to get around the issue by presenting themselves as one who "[b]elieves in a woman's right to choose but believes all sides should come together around the common goal of preventing and reducing the number of abortions, with more sex ed, including abstinence, access to contraception and more adoption."

Democrats or Republicans, for that matter, who choose to adopt this line will fool no one except those who desire to be fooled. More sex ed and increased access to contraception have only increased abortions.

The Dimmies do have a problem. The alliance with the pro-death crowd (abortion and euthanasia) is not something they can advertise with pride.

Their alliance with public employee unions is shaky, as (look at Wisconsin) even Dimmie Governors have to cut back on public employee perks, salaries, and numbers.

Their alliance with Big Labor cracked with Reagan and has been irregular ever since.

The Greenies have begun to display their nut-cake inner selves; thus Dimmie alliance with them has its risks.

Finally, the Old Folks' Crowd has ALSO begun to question the eternal "wisdom" of Social Security at ANY cost--especially at the cost of their own children's economic viability.

Where do the Dimmies go?

Curiously, better Biology Ed in h.s. has had its effects, too--kids are learning some facts that the SexEd crowd would rather they NOT know.

We had a good experience with hospice when my Father-in-law was dying. We actually provided the care while they sent in nurses to clean him up and check on him. The problem is where the patient is exclusively in their care as in Terri's case. BTW. Read Bernardine Healy's column in April 18th USNEWS, entitled "The Pope's Final Amen." Hits the rights notes.

"Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you," Sen. Clinton said. "We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

I see the same thing. (I teach RCIA and Confirmation.) The young in my community are very well grounded (thanks to some very dedicated priests) in Catholic dogma and believe in it. Many have much higher moral standards than their parents. Praise God.

There's a definite shift going on in this country. Because of recent issues, more people are speaking out and swinging back to some moral high ground after decades of being in the swamp! The Democrats, unfortunately, think they can win votes with rhetoric. But, when you're dealing with moral voters, words don't matter - deeds do. Until they have a proven track record, they'll never sway the Faithful Catholics. (CINO's, of course, just do whatever they like.)

Thanks to all of you. Next time I'll try not to be lazy and do my research. Between now and 4/15, I don't have much time outside of tax returns.

I do wish that the Republicans would spend a little of their capital to REFORM THE $#^&#&^# TAX CODE!!! I think that investment of "capital" would pay off in spades.
