Help Ann Coulter strike back: post YOUR "distorted" picture of the TIME magazine editors here
www.AnnCoulter.org ^ | April 18, 2005 | Ann Coulter (with help from Rockitz, RonDog, and the all Ann's FRiends here on FR)

.

As FReeper Rockitz noted on a previous thread:
To: RaceBannon

Ann doesn't miss a beat.

She put this on her own site. It's a picture of Time's picture editor, Mary Anne Golon with some equally unflattering distortion.

Certainly some creative FReepers could help Ann exact her revenge...
...by posting even MORE unflattering "distorted" images of the TIME magazine staff on this thread.

I think Ann putting the distorted pictures on her site makes her look petty and vindictive.

Time magazine being unfair to a conservative?
Ann is too bright to be surprised at that.

I was listening to Ann on Drudge last night. The person who did the interview told her she saw all the photos and told them they could use all of them but the last one, that had a lens that distorted the photo.

What B@st@rds.

I love Anne Coulter. . .and I actually loved this picture. . .thought it it kind of fit her cutting edge humor. ..she reminds me here, of 'Eloise' at the 'Park Plaza. . .

Never thought she did not know or approve; in which case, it does make it a 'hatchett' job of sorts and really more thnan rude.

That said, I kind of wish she had gone along with; and not given even one Lib; more pleasure than they deserve.

OK, I'm going to get flamed for this, but I have to make a few points here, in the interests of fairness.

1. Ann does not look that bad. Her face looks pretty, her legs look long. These are her strong suits anyway. This isn't her best or her sexiest picture, but she wouldn't have liked it (and most feminists wouldn't have liked it) if she were posed to make her look gorgeous or sexy instead of intelligent and newsworthy.

2. Part of the weirdness is her fault for wearing those witches' shoes. Pointy-toed shoes, however fashionable, do not make any woman's feet look smaller.

3. I would think that anyone who has her picture taken as often as Ann and is as media-savvy as she is would know that this picture was shot with unfavorable lighting and at a bad angle. No woman should EVER sit in a chair of that style. No woman should ever permit herself to be shot knees-first; there is no way to deal with that camera angle gracefully. When you spend a lot of time being photographed you usually realize this kind of thing.

I think the problem is that she's so lovely and photographs so well that she may not even have realized that it's possible to take a less-than-wonderful picture of her, so she wasn't as careful as she might have been. She trusted this photographer who is a representative of the MSM--always a mistake. I learned long ago never, never, never to trust people from the mainstream media. Never. No matter how nice they are. Just don't do it.

I found this potentially "distortable" image via Google on www.thefutureoflife.com/speakers/kelly.htm:

TIME Magazine

James Kelly joined TIME in 1978, writing for the magazine's Nation and World sections in his early years. After a stint as media critic, he was named deputy editor and then editor of the World section in 1988. Several years later, he became the magazine's deputy managing editor. Mr. Kelly became TIME's managing editor in January of 2001, the 15th chief editor of the magazine since its founding in 1923.

The cover's not as bad as imagined. The hoopla over it might sell more copies.

Time has a long standing history. I would venture to say that you can tell whether a magazine leans to the left or right by the way subjects are portrayed on the cover shot.

Do you recall the photo of Fidel Castro? Compare that to such photo's as Newt Gingrich and George W. Bush.

I read portions of the article featuring Ms. Coulter. Now, who's being divisive? No agenda there(sarcasm/on) If you're reading garbage, expect trash.

I don't understand how the picture is distorted?
She doesn't look that different from any other pictures of her that I've seen.
She said on Drudge that she thought that the cover image made her feet look HUGE.
And, the very low angle from which it was apparently taken makes her torso look virtually nonexistent.
And, many here (inspired by Doug from Upland) think that the picture makes her look child-like -- perhaps as an homage to Lily Tomlin's Edith Ann character on Saturday Night Live:

The main thing I would disagree with in your long "analysis" is that in point # 1 I think Ann would have no problem whatsoever looking great and sexy since she knows she is anything but the dumb blond type. Besides that I don't know any conservative women that have a problem looking good or sexy. Many are just that.

EXCELLENT, Petronski!
Now for your NEXT project, how about "distorting" the image of the PHOTOGRAPHER who took that dastardly image?
(The cover photo of Ann was taken for TIME by a guy who calls himself "Platon.")

From www.mediabistro.com:

So What Do You Do, Platon?

The photographer behind Esquire's famous Clinton "crotch shot" on shooting celebrities, the powerful, and fashion spreads filled with real people.
By Chris Gage – February 10, 2004

These days, when bolder, brasher headlines spill across magazine covers in a split-second strugglbe to capture our Schadenfreude-tinted fancy, it's rare that a picture catches the public's eye the way the low-angled "crotch shot" of Bill Clinton did back in December 2000, when it appeared on the cover of Esquire. The photographer behind that notorious shot—the British-born and mono-monikered Platon—was granted only a few minutes with the then-president, in which he covered his assignment bases and then boldly asked: "Mr. President, can you show me the love?" The photograph was immediately dissected and discussed by Larry King, Bob Woodward, and a host of other media pundits and scribes. The reaction the photo received, Platon says, "said more about the media than it did about me and Clinton. It was a contemporary portrait of a contemporary president. I wasn't going to photograph him as a stuffy old guy who doesn't relate to the young people..."
