Letter from Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger to Anglicans opposed to gay bishop
american anglican council ^ | Oct 9, 2003 | +Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger

Posted on 04/19/2005 10:39:05 AM PDT by churchillbuff

In 2003, after Episocpalian gay bishop Robinson was elected, a group of concerned Episcopalians and Anglicans met in emergency session, in Texas, to strategize how to respond -- through formally breaking away or other strategies.

They received this letter from Rome:

October 9, 2003

From Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger

The Vatican, on behalf of Pope John Paul II

I hasten to assure you of my heartfelt prayers for all those taking part in this convocation. The significance of your meeting is sensed far beyond Plano, and even in this City from which Saint Augustine of Canterbury was sent to confirm and strengthen the preaching of Christ’s Gospel in England. Nor can I fail to recall that barely 120 years later, Saint Boniface brought that same Christian faith from England to my own forebears in Germany.

The lives of these saints show us how in the Church of Christ there is a unity in truth and a communion of grace which transcend the borders of any nation. With this in mind, I pray in particular that God’s will may be done by all those who seek that unity in the truth, the gift of Christ himself.

With fraternal regards, I remain

Sincerely yours in Christ,

+Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger

Doesn't anyone have his picture?

I waswatching the TV..when he came out on the balcony, the new Pope seemed transformed. It was very apparent to me....One other point which I haven't seen mentioned yet..If he can accomplish for the German people 10% of what JP II did for the Poles, he will also have a very special Papacy..

THE ANGLICAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

We use the Tridentine Mass

We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer

We do NOT ordain females as priests.

We uphold the Transubstantiation.

If you have any more questions, feel free to FReepmail me. I understand that there are a good many Episcopalians out there who are looking for a home. The ACC was begun in the 70s.

It was an amazing appearance. Did you notice the clouds parting and the sun beaming down on him? Just like at JPII's funeral. Really quite incredible. I hope that means good things are ahead for the new Pope, the Church, and for all people around the world.

Am giving up on the US Episcopal church, and am going to convert to the Roman Catholic church.

Well, hurry up and get over here with the rest of us Converts!

My Parish converted en masse to the Roman Catholic Church-even my Anglican Priest who's know an RC Priest. It's great.

"On Monday, Ratzinger, who was the powerful dean of the College of Cardinals, used his homily at the Mass dedicated to electing the next pope to warn the faithful about tendencies that he considered dangers to the faith: sects, ideologies like Marxism, liberalism, atheism, agnosticism and relativism - the ideology that there are no absolute truths."

From the Drudge Report. Who can argue with that?

Does anybody know what order Ratzinger was ordained into?

What am I missing?

I believe he was telling them that he appreciated their concern and hoped they would use the truth of the Bible, particularly the New Testament in making their decision, whether it be to stay in the current church and work against the abomination, or to change churches. He also seems to tell them to do so in a loving manner, rather than let rancor invade their thought processes.

All-in-all, it was a message of support for those who understood the perversion that was occuring in the Epicopal Church and wished to keep from being complicent in it.

Well, Bishop Vickie, does sway me more to the ACC side but I have to admit that I much prefer Rite II BCP over 1928 version.

"Not that big a leap, really."

Been there - done that. - LOL!
... and, believe it or not, into the Eastern Rite Churches in full Communion with Rome it's more like one measured responsible step than a leap.

BTW, towards the bottom of my FR homepage I've got 2 related links which you may find of interest.

I gave up being a lifelong Episcopalian a few years ago.
The disgusting trends in that church had started several years before they made Robinson a bishop.

Since I am now spending most of my time in Slovakia, I have been to mass several times at several of the fine Catholic churches here.
This evening, the bells of St Martin's Cathedral in Old Town Bratislava were ringing for over an hour.

A schism in the Anglican Communion is inevitable, although Ratzinger/Benedict XVI seems opposed to this. Why do you say that "Ratzinger is opposed to this?

Actuallty I said that Ratzinger SEEMS opposed to this. This is what he actually said... I dunno... how do you take this?

"The lives of these saints show us how in the Church of Christ there is a unity in truth and a communion of grace which transcend the borders of any nation. With this in mind, I pray in particular that God’s will may be done by all those who seek that unity in the truth, the gift of Christ himself."

The fact that a Cardinal sent a letter to these people, in the Popes Name, means something. The fact that he accepted them as Brothers in Christ, implied, means even more. An interseting letter.

"Religious worship is not directed to images in themselves, considered as mere things, but under their distinctive aspect as images leading us on to God incarnate. The movement toward the image does not terminate in it as image, but tends toward that whose image it is." - These must be the words of someone trying to defame the catholics.
