“The purveyors of pornography repeatedly challenge us to prove that pornography causes violent crime,” said Rep. Harris. “I challenge them to prove that it does not.”

Have the makers of chocolate milk PROVEN that it doesn't cause violent crime?

What Average Joes can do is not buy and look at the stuff. But...

Encourage your local and national representatives to make laws to protect Americans from obscenity.

Uh oh.

In cities where prosecutors have gone after pornographic shops and other sexually oriented businesses, all types of crimes have dropped.

Crime has generally dropped all over the country, and I suspect "all types of crimes" dropped even in places where prosecutors didn't go after porno shops.

The local porn shop is going to wither and die anyway long term; everything is the internet.

Depends on what kind of porn your looking at. If you just like boobies then I don't see any "next step". Alot of guys have looked at Playboy all their lives and never raped or groped any woman. They just like to look at naked boobies very once and while.

Nothing new under ths sun.

James 1:14-15 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

As the article says, a fleeting though gives way to fantacizing which in turn gives way to pornography which gives way to obsessing which leads to rape and child molesting. If the fear of the law doesn't stop them, then the law must be much harsher. I'll volunteer for the firing squad and provide my own gun and ammo.

I had a huge discussion with my guy friends about this, some married, some not. We came to the conclusion that most guys in their late 20's, 30's and 40's who watch porn are probably doing so because their sex life stinks and they are not getting enough from their significant other. These guys, including myself, are tired of hearing the same old tired excuses and find it easier to watch porn than to beg for sex from their wife who would find it more pleasing to go visit her parents or spend time with her friends' kids or something.

Additionally, we all agreed that if we got more sex from the wives or significant others, we would probably watch less porn. My friends' wives are actually outraged that they even consider watching porn in the first place. Its a circular argument. Girl is to tired or emotional to have sex - guy gets frustrated and watches porn- girm is pissed off and does not want sex - guy is frustrated and watches porn.

I am not against pornography as much as other people are so long as it is not displayed on TV, etc etc.

You libertines can scoff but when I see pre-teens targeted by the porn industry it makes my blood boil. Ever seen www.whitehouse.com?

if everyone that had a "fleeting thought", or looked at porn, was raping people than there would be about 1,000 times more rapes than there are now.

Oh, Katherine, I thought you were smarter than this.

And the Ted Bundy stuff was debunked long ago.

So you are saying that all the male FReepers that drool over Paris Hilton on on their way to becoming child molestors?

What a slanderous little worm you are.

I like porn.

OK, now all the child molesters, drug addicts, animal lovers (you know what I mean) and other perverts get to come on here and tell us how much they like their particular gift from Satan.

Michael Jackson, here's your chance.
