Hugh Hewitt just said, moments ago, that, according to his sources, Chief Justice William Renquist will announce his retirement on Monday, and that the President will announce his nominee on Tuesday.
Good grief. I've seen precious little criticism, and much praise, for the judges nominated by this White House.
For a Bush-bashing comment, this one was really stupid.
My personal recess appointment choice would be Laura Ingraham, but she may not be feeling all that well now.
Wine, wine! I need red wine!
I'm picturing her with the robe off!
Does ANYONE ELSE have this story yet?
I like it!
That's what I was wondering. Some people who bash Bush just haven't learned yet that he ALWAYS has a plan.
Better Scalia than Thomas.
It'll be Gloria Allred or Whorealdo!

The chief does serve a ceremonial role and in practical terms is responsible for determining who writes the opinion when he's in the majority. Hence I think Scalia is an even better choice than Thomas. Thomas is a fine jurist, but Scalia is the Mark Steyn of justices.
Amen and amen. I'm sure Gonzales is a fine man, but we need someone uncompromisingly pro-life and conservative. This is too important. I will not "wait and see" on any nominee. Either he/she is conservative, or no deal.
Gratuitous punctuation makes my teeth hurt.
I don't think so. The balance of the court won't be changed if Bush replaces Rehnquist with another conservative. The battle royale will be when a vacancy occurs due to a moderate or liberal departing the court.
President Bush does back his nominees---but, he can't be seen involving himself TOO much with the Senate's business...
Sheesh, Dick Cheney was slaughtered by just mentioning in a speech that he would vote for Bolton, if it came to a 50-50 vote. The dems went crazy accusing him of messing in the Senate's business...and he is the President of the Senate!
Didn't the popular EMK inform Bush last week that Thomas would not be confirmed as chief justice?
At least.
Janice Brown, no ifs, ands or buts.
Now that's what I call a "nuclear option!"
