Mao More Than Ever (Boston communists say they want a revolution.)
The Boston Phoenix ^ | 07/01/05 | Mike Millard

Posted on 07/03/2005 12:41:16 PM PDT by raccoonradio

Boston communists say they want a revolution. Now they just have to agree on how to bring it about.

A pimple-faced teen with Coke-bottle glasses and a self-satisfied smirk stands near the doorway of Harvard Square’s tiny Revolution Books. He’s skinny and draped in a large black T-shirt adorned with a full-color portrait of Joseph Stalin, the iron-fisted despot responsible, directly or indirectly, for the deaths of millions.

"Stalin is my friend," the kid says, at once cockily and geekily, as he stares at the floor.

"Yeah, yeah, but we can do better than Stalin," says the guy behind the counter who, even though it’s hot, is wearing a heavy sweater under his SERVE THE PEOPLE T-shirt. "We can do a lot better. You can have socialism without suppressing intellectualism." His name is George Bryant, and he’s a volunteer at this decades-old bastion of unabashed communist agitation, a bookstore that, amazingly, still survives in the ever-more-corporatized "People’s Republic of Cambridge." Bryant gestures toward a stack of books and DVDs from the Maoist Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP), whose chairman, Bob Avakian, is "really offering a deep critique of America and an in-depth defense of communism — in a sense reinventing it without throwing out the whole."

The kid and his friends, high-schoolers obviously flirting with jejune hard leftism, seem noncommittal and a little nonplussed. "What would you guys think about taking a bunch of these?" Bryant asks, offering a stack of the Maoist RCP weekly newspaper, Revolution, for them to proselytize with. The kids demur, and they leave.

"As soon as these pimple faced adsolescents get laid their interest in the left will clear up."

LOL that reads like an advertisement for Clearisil zit cream. Pimple face, clear up.

Looney male leftists = over the hill juvenile virgins. Their angst is all displaced sexually repressed aggression.

"I think those wine and cheese communists in Boston should get a taste of class warfare."

ie., they need to grow a set of grapes to back up their cheesey whine.

"but my sis and bil are fairly apolitical. They say it's safer"

Gawd so much for the "liberal" mindset of being free and easy when some people have to hide their true beliefs and opinions because it's "safer". Sounds like some occupied communist country during WWII rabid with paranoia.

I don't think so. Cheap commie rag shrunk too much to wear. It was fun to walk in there wearing shades and a "Live Free or Die" New Hampshire shirt with an eagle on it when I bought it. Those lefty freaks were looking at me like I was about to open up with an Uzi....

The most effective way to really piss someone off is to not take them seriously. So I suppose I got plenty of mileage out of that "Mao More Than Ever" shirt....

Dotterman is a communist because he has to be.

If this were a communist nation, Mr. Dotterman, you'd be right.

But this is the United States of America. You're a commie, Mr. Dotterman, because this nation protects your right to be one.

Massachusetts is well on its way.

So are parts of New Hampshire and Vermont. It is becoming SO expensive to live that middle-class wage earners are moving away...you just can't afford to live here. I'm in a town of 20,000 in west NH, and rents average $1000 - 2000 per month. When you're making $15 - $20 per hour, it is tough to hang on. There are TONS of jobs, but no takers. Doctors, lawyers, and college professors can hack it, but the service industry that waits their tables, does their dry cleaning, and operates their retail sector are leaving...who will do their 'dirty work' then? Interesting times...

And it doesn’t have to be bloody when the revolution comes. "Russia in 1917 was incredibly nonviolent."

This is the type of thinking we are dealing with. Of course it wasn't nonviolent -- until the communists took over. By 1918 an extremely bloody civil war broke out.

Why, cheap illegal immigrants of course. High end hotels and cruise ships have already implemented cheap foriegn labor disguising it as a "fun foreign exchange program". Har har har....

Terrorist wars such as the I.R.A.
do fall under domestic or genocide.

" might be time to invest in Spanish lessons."

I kick myself for ignoring my parents advice to take Spanish classes during high school. I took another language with intentions on partaking in a college foreign exhange program which never materialized. Oh well, the best laid plans.

If that's the case, it shouldn't read "nil" in the domestic and genocide categories, right?

Oh and the so called fun foreign exchange work programs aren't filled with just south Americans. There are many from such countries as Romania and the like. They lure foreign twenty something year olds who are youthfull and want to sew their oats abroad and aren't looking to settle down starting families. ie., they get free room and board and get to travel the globe. I haven't talked to enough of them to see if its a great deal for them or not. Guess it beats back packing and sleeping in cheap YMCA's or hostils(sp?)

Yep sorry to say none of them ever look older than 25 to 28 years old. I figure because they're young, adventureous and care free as we all are at that age. No baggage to worry about and by the time they're 30 yrs old it's time to head back home or marry an American for citizenship.

:D

This Gary Dotterman has three tours in Vietnam and is a communists? Horsepucky.

I got three tours in Vietnam and the only thing I liked about communists was killing em.

These people are punks and are not going to fight in any revolution. Just because you wear a Che t-shirt doesn't mean you are a revolutionary.

Exactly what we tell them. Gee, the liberals are soooo enlightened and tolerant. I think they're both closet conservatives, at least to some degree, but expressing political or -horror- religious beliefs is strictly, to quote my sister, verboten. John and Teddy and Barney must be so proud! (oh, wait, they are...)

Otoh, I haven't received any feedback (verbal, keying, etc) on my Bush sticker when I visit. And we do play 'spot the Bush stickers' to pass the time on the drive. lol
