Jail overcrowding, PLUS lack of medical attention, alleged beatings, etc., had sparked lawsuits. The cost of throwing everybody in jail is choking states, counties, and municipalities, and more importantly, it's NOT REHABILITATING criminals.

Just do like they do in Indy, A Dem judge tells them to let them out, so they can commit more crimes before even being tried for the first.

Works wonderfully.

We had 1200 brand new beds in a medium security prison(Grissom) set empty while we sent prisoners to KY.

Marion Co. jail is always on the brink, but we're gonna build a
$900Million stadium for the Colts instead.

Send in Sheriff Joe and the tents. I just have no sympathy for the prisoners.

I agree. Simple concrete cells and steel bars are far more cost effective then rehabilitation centers.

Take away their citizenship and ID. Send them to Mexico in exchange for the 1/3 of all violent offenders Mexico has sent us that we have in jail.

Prisons and Jails are established for: (1)to keep these animals out of our society and (2) for punishment. Nothing else.

The rehabilitation part comes when the criminal realizes that crime results in a bad experience while abiding the law results in avoiding a bad experience. It worked with Pavlov, why shouldn't it work with criminals?

Now, as to your assesment of the situation...please provide us with the stats on how many "rehabilitated" criminals "see the light" and go out into society to become pillars of their community VS those who simply continue to live a life of crime.

Maybe us here on FR can actually view this outstanding report and change our minds.

Clearly the solution is to release all the child molestors so we can make sure those evil pot smokers stay off the streets.

I agree 100%. Who says it has to be fancy? That AZ Sheriff feeds his prisoners on a couple dollars a day. Give them tents, and in the winter pump some hot air into the tents with a boiler located outside the fence. A big fence, razor wire and a some guard shacks high up and comfortably protected from the weather.

Prisoners should get no special diets, nothing except the cheapest food to give them necessary nutrition. Same meals every day. Let them complain about it. Why should we give a @#$% what they think or say? Its prison. They aren't supposed to like it and have a grand old time.

I used to think same way. But when I visited a relative in jail, it all changed. Seven people in a little cell is WRONG. People sleeping on floor is WRONG. Diabetics, and others being denied needed emergency medical attention is VERY WRONG!!

It is becoming obvious that the criminal justice 'syatem' is broken. A revision is necessary. More attention should be paid to first offenders. Public humiliation such as the pillory, stocks and whipping. Branding of, say, child molestors; i.e. a great big CM on the forehead would serve as a warning to potential victims. The possibilities are endless. All it requires is a little strength; the ability to allow these miserable little pieces of fate to suffer, all without becoming hysterical.
