VANITY: I Just a Saw a Pro-Life Rap Music Video on MTV?
Vanity | August 6, 2005

Posted on 08/06/2005 2:54:30 AM PDT by RWR8189

The name of the song was "Can I Live?"

And it had a very strong Pro-Life message to it, about the sacrifice the musician's mother made in her decision to choose life.

I was just flipping through the channels and saw pictures of abortion protestors on MTV and thought it was some sort of liberal driven video, but I ended up being very pleasantly surprised.

Things like this give me hope for the future of our country.

Here are the lyrics:

Can I Live"

(feat. Anthony Hamilton)

Talking]
Talking Ma
I know the Situation is Personal
But it something that has to be told
As I was making this beat
You was all I could think about you heard my voice

[Verse 1]
Yeah Just think Just Think
What if you could Just
Just blink your self away..
Just Just wait just pause for a second
Let me plead my case
It's the late 70's Huh
You Seventeen huh
And having me that will ruin everything huh
It's alot of angels waiting for their wings
You see me in your sleep so you cant kill your dreams
300 Dollars thats the price of living what?
Mommy I dont like this clinic
Hopefully you'll make the right decision
And dont go through with the Knife Decision
But it's hard to make the right move
When you in high school
How you have to work all day and take night school
Hopping off da bus when the rain is pouring
What you want morning sickness or the sickness of mourning

[Chorus]
I Will Always Be apart of you
Trust Your Soul Know it's always true
If I Could Talk I Would Say To You
CAN I LIVE
CAN I LIVE
I Will Always Be apart of you
Trust Your Soul Know it's always true
If I Could Talk I Would Say To You
CAN I LIVE
CAN I LIVE

[Verse 2]
I am a child of the king
Ain't no need to go fear me
And I see the flowing tears so know that you hear me
When I move in your womb that's me being scared
Cause who knows what my future holds
Yo the truth be told you ain't told a soul
Yo you ain't even showing I'm just 2 months old
Through your clothes try to hide me deny me
Went up 3 sizes
Your pride got you lying saying ain't nothing but a migraine
It ain't surprising you not trying to be in Wic food lines
Your friends will look at you funny but look at you mommy
That's a life inside you look at your tummy
What is becoming ma I am Oprah bound
You can tell he's a star from the Ultrasound
Our Sprits Connected Doors Open Now
Nothing But Love And Respect Thanks For Holding Me Down She Let Me Live...

[Chorus]
I Will Always Be apart of you
Trust Your Soul Know it's always true
If I Could Talk I Would Say To You
CAN I LIVE
CAN I LIVE
I Will Always Be apart of you
Trust Your Soul Know it's always true
If I Could Talk I Would Say To You
CAN I LIVE
CAN I LIVE
[Repeat 2]

[Nick Talking]

It's uplifting foreal yall
I ain't passing no judgement
Ain't making no decisions
I am just telling ya'll my story
My love life
I love my mother for giving me life
We all need to appreciate life
A strong woman that had to make a sacrifice
Thanks for listening
Thanks for listening
Mama thanks for listening

Well, hell must have frozen over. And that's good news in many respects, but it obligates me to do some pretty outlandish things.

If you liked the lyrics, you'll love the video. I'm not a big cryer, but I had tears streaming down my face.

Just Wait for the ICE AGE when/if this video gets an MTV Music Video of the Year nod or better yet, win.

I don't normally read lyrics to music, especially RAP music. It's after my time. Most all of them are full of F-Bombs. But these I had to take the time to read and you're right, it is refreshing to see such a message. Goes right along with my tagline.

I got into a discussion with a liberal female at one of my previous jobs about a "woman's right to choose." I asked her point blank...What about the baby. I said half of all the baby's aborted would have grown up to be women. I asked what about those women's "right to choose" what to do with THEIR bodies. STOPPED HER DEAD IN HER TRACKS. She said she never thought about it that way. Her views of abortion started changing that day. By the time I left the company a year or so later, she wasn't quite the feminazi she had been. I heard her make quite a few quasi-pro-life statements during that year. Not to say she turned into a staunch pro-lifer like me, but it was interesting to see her reaction. I do wonder how she sees abortion today.

"I didn't make the song to make a political statement," Cannon says. "I'm just thanking my mom for being strong."

The song is featured on his September album, Stages. "I'm not pro-life or pro-choice. I'm pro-Nick. I'm just happy to be here."

the left is steps ahead. they know that abortion is an issue that the tide is turning for. listen to what they're saying about it. politicos are ready to deal on it, on parental consent, etc. They see what's happening on the Supreme Court. RvW is dead.

They have set their sights on the next battle. I'm not sure what it is...but someone here probably has a pretty good idea.

This sentiment is expressed in more hiphop/rap songs than just this one. Often as a passing line not as the focus of the song.

I will occasionally, strictly as part of my anthropological studies you understand, listen to this stuff on the way home from work.

There is a reason the Democrat leaders are starting to decide the issue is one they need to back away from. It has not yet gone down in flames but it is heading that way.

Strange that you would mention that you cried -- I appreciate your candor! It's not a thing that gives you instant credibility (if you are looking for that) but I too have cried with a piece of music: Blue Oyster Cult "Fear the Reaper" (hit me on the last verse). Again, tis great that you refer to your honest emotions!
