Iranian Alert - August 14, 2005 - President Bush to Iran: We've used Force before

In a stern warning to Iran, President Bush said "all options are on the table" if the Iranians refuse to comply with international demands to halt their nuclear program, pointedly noting he has already used force to protect U.S. security.

Bush's statement in an interview on Israeli TV late Friday was unusually harsh. He previously said diplomacy should be used to persuade Iran to suspend its nuclear program and if that failed then the U.N. Security Council should impose sanctions.

The U.S. government and others fear Iran's nuclear work is secretly designed to produce nuclear weapons. Iran's leaders deny that, saying it is only for the generation of electricity.

In Vienna, Austria, where the IAEA is based, diplomats said Iran faced a Sept. 3 deadline to stop uranium conversion or face possible referral to the Security Council, which has the power to impose crippling sanctions. The diplomats spoke on condition of anonymity.

Iran, which insists its nuclear program is peaceful, responded with indignation to the warning.

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said Saturday he would not support U.S. military action against Iran. "Let's by all means develop a strong negotiating position, but take the military option off the table," Schroeder said.

"Good morning neighbor. Wont you be my neighbor?"

Sorry, I guess I don't get it. Would you mind clarifying what's this about?

Sweet list... The Iranians are betting the farm that we are going to sit by and watch while they gear up for war with us. Inshallah! The Iranians against this madness will post the lat-long and depth of ALL of their threatening facilities.

Schroder is being an ass again and making counter-productive statements designed for domestic political consumption. Fischer of Germany was more responsible than Schroder when he said he hoped the negotations with Iran don't end in a "fatal conclusion." I know English is Fischer's second language, but I'm sure he knows the meaning of the word fatal and he's referring to a military strike by the US, Israel, and possibly NATO that would terminate the present regime in Iran.

Nuclear talks won't take USA any where.

The USA and Europe need to focus on human rights crisis in Iran in order to get some footholds among people too!

well, which ones do? tell us if you know. (just kidding) the sites listed there were on iranwatch.org as having something to do with some part of the process. It looks like some of them are universities or businesses. didn't berkley run los alamos in this country until recently? Obviously I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the sites listed though. I was just trying to make the point that if this much is available on the internet on a google search, I am sure there is a better list available to our own government. Fair?

The Citizens of Iran probably have more positive thoughts about the USA than half of our Senators.

.... Our War is against Radical Islamic Terrorists, not any Country or Race, it has no Geographic or Political Boundaries.

If War requires killing large quantities, then it requires killing large quantities, War is War, hasn't changed on the battlefield for thousands of years.

.... You sell Iran short, you sell the US short and your lack of conviction is evidence that you sell yourself short.

I think you read something into my post that I did not intend. I completely support staying in Iraq and in the war against terror as long as that may take. I am thinking 5-10 years seems likely.

I have friends in Iraq. I have family in Iraq. What I said was that I don't want them to have to deal with human wave attacks of children, like the Iranian government used in their last war.

That is how I feel. I'm sorry if that upsets you.

Now, if we have to go to war with Iran, then so be it. Our men and women in uniform will do us proud. And I will support them.

It's not even obvious to me that Iran is the most likley next military confrontation - that may be Syria.

You would have this info, I'm sure, but it seems to me that I saw an article last week, that someone had assassinated the Judge who sentenced the student under hunger strike.

If true, that is HUGE. Resistance of a serious kind might be beginning. Please post a link if you have the story. It was only a brief blurb on the front page of the WSJ either last week or the week before. Hit your ping list with it.

We, in Iran, hope that the clash between the US and Iranian Mullahs won't end up in disintegration of our country!

Bomb the Mullahs but watch for civilians who even have nothing to do with the regime!

All we want is a bit of freedom to breath.

That is all!
