Three Cheers For The Bush Tax Cuts
Wall Street Journal/Hispanic Pundit ^ | August 16th, 2005 | Alfonso Trujillo ?

Posted on 08/20/2005 11:03:54 AM PDT by george76

First, more Americans have jobs today than at any other time in history.

Second, over the past two decades or so, the U.S. has created more than 40 million jobs — twice as many as Europe and Japan combined.

And third, the U.S. has one of the lowest jobless rates of all developed nations.

It was only a year ago that John Kerry was blasting the “jobless recovery.” Lou Dobbs was flogging “outsourcing” every night on CNN as a sign of peril for the American workforce. That criticism now looks wildly off base. The 5% jobless rate today is almost a percentage point below what it was during the same stage of the business cycle during the vaunted “Clinton expansion.”

In the past 24 months 3.5 million more Americans have found work...

As the nearby chart shows, the bottom of the jobs recession hit in mid-2003 — and the recovery began at the very point that the Bush marginal-rate tax cuts were enacted into law….

Part of the explanation for this success is that, especially compared to Europe, the U.S. has imposed fewer taxes and regulations (even though we have plenty)

A unique feature of the U.S. economy is that Americans move in and out of jobs — usually to rise up the income elevator — at a rapid and persistent pace. This is the key to the Great American Jobs Machine, and it explains why Europe and Japan should be more like us, and not the other way around.

Sure funny how "outsourcing" has left the language after the election.

Could it all have been just a political football?

Now if we could get congress to take it further. Cut more taxes, create more growth.

High taxes are exactly why France and Germany have double digit unemployment.

If unemployment went to 3.9% I'd doubt the MSM would notice.

Oh it's alive and well, just no reason to mention it since the isn't a damned thing this president is willing to do to prevent it. If you don't think that it's an issue then check this mornings newspaper how the Northwest Airlines machinists went on strike rather than sign a contract that allowed a minimum of 53% of their jobs be outsourced overseas.

They'd say it was due to "McJobs" being created. The MSM hates good news.

At least he's trying to outsource the Army's role in Iraq to the indigenous defenders.

I would say Willie Green is deeply saddened by this news, except that he is probably reading it, twitching and drooling on himself, and looking for some story about how an outdated plant were 200 workers have an average age of 85 are being laid off or relocated.....

either that or it will be how some 400 strippers were laid off in the US over the past 2 weeks....or something because it's ALWAYS something.....

Good question. But is it a real football nonetheless? Some Americans are getting tired of being punted. (Okay, I'll stop the football metaphors.)

Democrats will claim that the increase in taxable incomes means not that the "tax cuts" increased revenue (and thus COST NOTHING) but rather that the tax cuts cost more than expected (e.g. cutting by 5 percentage points the tax on someone who was expected to earn $1,000,000 but instead earns $1,500,000 costs $75,000 rather than $50,000).

Enlighten me. Just what power does the POTUS have and what do you suggest to the POTUS do?

Hey wake up and smell the Coffee... Business are in business to make money, and not give you a job... What do you want government to tell people who they can and cannot hire?

We already signed GATT, NAFTA, etc.... there is no turning back now. BTW, last time I checked unemployment it was probably the lowest for any President. So much for the unemployment lines...

I get so tired of some people that may have lost their job due to "outsourcing" and instead of picking themselves up by the bootstraps, acquiring and polishing their skills and making themselves marketable to a company, they blame Bush, blame Senators, Blame Congresscritters and generally condemn our entire capitalist system. People like non-sequitur make me want to puke.

Since we have a dictatorship for a government then why are we paying the wages of Congress? ; )

It's going to take some of the Congress "Critters" at least another millennium to realize that cutting taxes is the answer for more growth.
