Oh, really?
Yeah, well, what do YOU know?
Actually no. Puerto Ricians pay NO Federal Tax.
No. "Although Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens, residents of Puerto Rico pay no federal income tax, nor can they vote in presidential elections."
"Schools are dealing with too many problems which originate in the language differences and that takes teaching time away from our American children whose parents do pay taxes."
Our school systems are in fact suffering from the high cost of ESL. (English as a second language.)
-Odd how you would support a bilingual system, oppose English as an official language, yet by your own admission; you: "don't speak three words of Spanish."
;^D
I'm for the status quo. Many in P.R. would vote Dem.
The No nothing party? They were anti Catholic and anti immigrant.
"Once you unleash the dogs you can't always control who they attack.""
Puerto Rico is a US Territory. I can't stand how Latin America is clumped into one group. Mexicans are Mexicans, Argentinians are Argentinians and Puerto Ricans are Puerto Ricans. It's like saying England, Germany, and France are the same cause it's all in Europe. Completely different countries.
Not everyone is 100% WASP like you.
That was my first thought. How in the Hell did it get from her congressman to the newspapers - Spanish or otherwise? I think the investigation should begin with the congressman's office staff.
Hispanic is an ethnic group similar to italian, greek, armenian, irish, etc. If she said she didn't like italians that doesn't make her racist.
This is all political correct nonsense. What is ironic is that bayourod posted it to further his agenda. Funny that he would do that when he's made posts denigrating Nigerians and stating a preferrence for blonde-haired, blue-eyed western Europeans as laborers instead of hispanics. Just when we thought bayourod had no more credibility he found a way to dig a deeper hole for himself.
"Ever hear of the Know Nothing Party?"
Ever hear of the Bull Moose Party?
Very good!
I love the pic!
It's very fitting. ;o)
2. There aren't that many Cubans in Orlando. Largest Hispanic group by far are the PRs, with smaller numbers of Colombians and Mexicans.
Uh, wrong.
Most Mexicans are mixed Amerindian and European, with a larger Amerindian component in their gene pool.
Most Dominicans are of African or Mulaltto ancestry.
Most Argentineans are of European ancestry.
BUMP
Really. So which race, specifically, does "hispanic" represent? Please refer to official U.S. census categories. Let's see there..."American Indian or Alaska Native; Asian; Black or African American; Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander; and White". Now, check the U.S. census categories for hispanic and you'll see that it is officially an ethnicity, not a race, and are the only ethnicities tracked by the U.S. census. Before 1997, hispanic actually fell under "white" as a race. Since then, hispanics can identify as any race but also include that their ethnicity is hispanic.
The point is that the race-baiters use the "racist" label as a bludgeon to extort people into doing things their way. It is a cudgel the left wields and it is folly for conservatives to help them wield it.
Point well taken, although I still believe the "Hispanic" category should be eliminated.
What Are The New Standards And When Do They Take Effect? For what reason would the Federal Government want to divide the citizens of this nation into two categories - "Hispanic or Latino" or "Not Hispanic or Latino" while ignoring all other ethnic categories? In October 1997, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announced the revised standards for federal data on race and ethnicity. The minimum categories for race are now: American Indian or Alaska Native; Asian; Black or African American; Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander; and White. Instead of allowing a multiracial category as was originally suggested in public and congressional hearings, the OMB adopted the Interagency Committee's recommendation to allow respondents to select one or more races when they self-identify. With the OMB's approval, the Census 2000 questionnaires also include a sixth racial category: Some Other Race. There are also two minimum categories for ethnicity: Hispanic or Latino and Not Hispanic or Latino. Hispanics and Latinos may be of any race.
The new categories were used by the Census Bureau for the Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal in spring 1998, and will be used on the Census 2000 questionnaire. The new standards are effective immediately for new and revised data collections by federal agencies, and all federal agencies must implement the new standards by January 1, 2003.
