Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part III
NHC-NOAA ^ | 27 August 2005 | NHC-NOAA

Posted on 08/26/2005 10:25:04 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. Currently, the forecast models are converging upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. Throughout Friday, the official track forecasts moved west, as Hurricane Katrina delayed making the anticipated northwest turn.

The following links are self-updating.

Pretty much all the models (with the sole exception of the FSU superensemble) and the recon schedule and data are all publicly avaliable.

Is it me or is The Weather Channel the only network out there bothering to cover this? CNN has Larry King interviewing Pamela Anderson; MSNBC is airing "Captured" and FOX is doing a piece on a missing Ga. woman.

No, not kidding. The idiots. They think they have plenty of time. The problem is the main way out is west to Lafayette and then north or west from there. This storm is so big that with a jog one way or the other there could be no way out. I tried but didn't get through to them.

Like what occurred during the last tsunami, animals prove they're smarter than humans when it comes to basic survival "instincts".

WC just had a report on that evacuation to Jackson,MS is taking 24 hours. I had the sound down so I am assuming they are saying that is out of NO and over to Jackson. What would normally take about 4 maybe 4 1/2 hours is taking 24??

BTW, I am in SC and my family is in Long Beach, MS and Diamondhead, MS and NO, LA. Prayers for all of you in the path of this storm

...........

Because it's OBVIOUS the N.O. local and state officials are TOO STUPID TO SEE PAST THEIR NOSES. The feds don't want(to be blamed) to add insult to INJURY when all the dead bodies start floating back to the top after the hurricane has come and gone.

Kathleen Blanco - "Lots of people are not aware of this storm because last night when they went to bed the forecast was for it to go into Florida, but overnight that changed to Louisiana."

Total BS.

Says that she's worried that not enough people are evacuating. Yet she's governor and can make the evac's mandatory.

I'll agree with that. The animals move on instinct and millions of years of experience. The damn computers are only as good as the programmers and mathematicians who dream up the models of what hurricanes are supposed to do based on what we assume about weather patterns. Whom to trust? Hmm... how about *nature* rather than 'science' in this case?

FINALLY- just heard a phone interview with the governor of LA...she said the president has declared a PRE hurricane emergency- apparently the first time that's ever happened...and that Max Mayfield had called HER..and said this is really, really serious.

She sounded a LOT more sober than she did this afternoon...I think SOMEONE got through to her...she's begging New Orleans residents to GET OUT.

It is odd that they did not order the shutdown of businesses at noon today except those selling goods needed to evacuate. That would have suggested the party was over. Meanwhile a fair number of folks are moving along on Bourbon street, and the bars are open.
