Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

Do you have a link to that NWS report? It is so extreme, it looks fake. Thanks.

MOST OF THE AREA WILL BE UNINHABITABLE FOR WEEKS...PERHAPS LONGER. AT LEAST ONE HALF OF WELL CONSTRUCTED HOMES WILL HAVE ROOF AND WALL FAILURE. ALL GABLED ROOFS WILL FAIL...LEAVING THOSE HOMES SEVERELY DAMAGED OR DESTROYED.

THE MAJORITY OF INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS WILL BECOME NON FUNCTIONAL. PARTIAL TO COMPLETE WALL AND ROOF FAILURE IS EXPECTED. ALL WOOD FRAMED LOW RISING APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL BE DESTROYED. CONCRETE BLOCK LOW RISE APARTMENTS WILL SUSTAIN MAJOR DAMAGE...INCLUDING SOME WALL AND ROOF FAILURE.

HIGH RISE OFFICE AND APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL SWAY DANGEROUSLY...A FEW TO THE POINT OF TOTAL COLLAPSE. ALL WINDOWS WILL BLOW OUT.

Oh my god...

We need to write the names down on freepers in harms way..

I wanted to map them in Google Earth and post them, but you're the only one who sent me the location of your brother. That's it. I guess no one is very interested.

Did NOAA lose a bouy?

I've been monitoring one in the Gulf 260NM South of Panama City, at this link:
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=42003

Now it says it has no reports.

If When they lose power, how will the Superdome stay cool and how will they get air?

It won't and air will be hard to come by. A disaster in a relatively small space.

Question

Why don't the turn the interstate/highway around

Open ALL the lanes to go out and leave one for in bound traffic?

But Sheppard Smith is coming in now. Backup

He is such a punk. I'll have to stay tuned to Fox now, just to see Shep pee his pants when the first wind gust of 170+ happens. He'll be crying like a girl.

Shep Smith on phone with Brian Wilson....he is heading to the area for their "extended coverage"...and he was giving some really good information....

BTW, if all of those people go to the Superdome, Shep said that if what they are predicting DOES happen, they won't be able to pump out any water and it could take WEEKS for the water to dissapate on its own, if those people are stuck in there...maybe no electricity....that would have to be a disaster!!!

Fox cut the President's comments on Iraq, too. Apparently, Americans can't handle two news stories.

Oh yes they can....... Natalee Holloway and Groom Overboard.

;-)
