Mary Landrieu: I'll Punch Bush, 'Literally'
NewsMax.com ^ | Sept. 4, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."

"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."

It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.

The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."

"The president came here yesterday for a photo-op," Landrieu charged, while surveying the disaster scene via helicopter with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos in tow. "He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."

Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.

In recent days, Louisiana officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.

EXACTLLY! Step away from your computer and TV for awhile.People are dying (and being rescued) while we sit here punching away at our keyboards. Go outside and count your blessings. This is not the time for the blame game to start. There will be plenty to go around in the upcoming months.

As a side-note, when I was watching TV this week, I really didn't pay any attention to the skin color of the people affected until the race card was played. I only saw fellow Americans in need.

Emotionally, I am exhausted. Hoping that everyone is doing what they can to help.

I just heard something on Fox. Wonder if anybody has heard the same. The President has asked Rudy to oversee the disaster in the tri states. I am way back from the end of this thread but its so interesting, I don't want to miss anything and eventually I will catch up so if this has already been posted, I apologize.

Thanks for the number.

I just got off the phone with an agent in Baton Rouge. I told him what she said and where she said. He said he would pass this information onto the Intelligence Division so they can check into it.

He said she can't be arrested but can be questioned by the intelligence division.

I told him her statement will encourage others to act violently against the president.

He said it was an irresponsible statement for her to make.

I think you are very right to point to a censure of this so-called U.S. Senator. At the very least that needs to happen. But there will be plenty of wishy-washy feel good politics going on that says "you need to feel her pain..."

I was gonna post something to that effect yesterday but I figured I'd have people throwing rocks at me if I asked why the cops quit so fast. No one was expecting to save the city but for so many to quit and take off. The ones that stayed and did their best are the good guys that NO will need more of.

Thanks for the link. This is my letter to her.

Dear Senator Landrieu,

RE:
"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."

I am so ashamed of the elected officials of my state. During the most horrific natural disaster we have ever faced as a nation it seems as if all of the Democratic elected officials of this state can do is point fingers of blame at President Bush. I read about your threat to the president and your immature childish behavior is another black mark on this state during this time of crisis.

Are there any adults in charge of this state? There are thousands of dead Louisiana citizens and all you and Gov. Blanco can do is to get on tv, cry and blame everyone else for YOUR failure to lead. Too bad we did not elect leaders like Mayor Rudy Guilliani and Gov. George Pataki. They stood up and took control from the moment they realized we were under attack. Their swift thinking and action maintained law and order that allowed them to save people's lives.

May God have mercy on you as you realize that your politicizing this catastrophe from the beginning has caused people to die. Perhaps you could have used your position of "leadership" to convince Gov. Blanco and Mayor Nagin to issue the mandatory evacuation as soon as New Orleans was in the cross hairs and commandeered all of those flooded school buses to take people to safety. How come democrats figured out to use those buses to take those people who were stranded to the voting booth but they failed to take them to safety when their lives depended on it? Can you answer that question for me?

All I can say is in this time of crisis I am thankful that I at least voted for people who had a plan and knew how to use it.

Sincerely,

A disgusted constituent of this state.

Sheesh. I'm starting to get the feeling that Democrats in NO are willing to sacrifice the city of NO and people's lives to make a point about Bush.

They didn't do anything in the first place so they could lay the blame at his feet for deaths.

They're not cooperating now so they can blame him for deaths.

Now, Landrieu is here just making up stuff Bush might say and telling people she'd punch him if he did.

These guys aren't taking this seriously at all. A criminal investigation needs to take place when this is done. Did Landrieu, Blanco, and Nagin intentionally hamper escape and relief efforts so that they could blame Bush. And I'm serious.

Indeed, the Dems will make excuses for her saying she was "emotionally drained and overcome" or some nonsense like that.

Bush has made no criticism of the police either. It's stupid.

These pics are priceless. I count over 400 buses sitting unused. At 50 people per bus, that's over 20,000 people, at least, that could have been evacuated. The incompetence/criminal negligence here is stunning.

But it's Bush's fault.

I commend you, although I think that if you or I had said that, the black Suburbans would be pulling up in our driveway within a few hours.

Then again, I suspect that you nor I would never say that!

It's nepotism. Always has been. We have had, and I guess always will have, one of the most corrupt state governments in all of the US.

She is hysterical. Her voting base is getting shipped all over the country. The flood waters are washing away the corrupt facade of the Landrieu family.

She has crossed a line with the physical threat to the President or anyone else for that matter. I don't care if the media makes a circus of it for months - she should be arrested. This has got to stop somewhere and would be a pleasure to watch the face-lift queen do the perp walk.
