WASHINGTON -- It will serve as a living tribute. With each wind, each breeze, a set of chimes housed in a 93-foot tower will create a different song in memory of the 40 people who sacrificed their lives trying to save the lives of others.

Four years after United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a reclaimed strip mine near Shanksville, Somerset County, on Sept. 11, 2001, the design that will serve as the national memorial was unveiled here yesterday in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hall of Flags.

"Crescent of Embrace" will feature a Tower of Voices, containing 40 wind chimes -- one for each passenger and crew member who died...

Actually, the symbol for Islam is a crescent and star.

But you are correct. The use of a crescent is a little too close to the symbol of Islam for my liking.

The designers should have recognized this and further more, the jurors should have seen this as well.

A gesture of surrender.

Tell that to our troops risking and giving their lives for you.

Admin pulled this thread for whatever reason when I tried to answer yer post. Never are all the people pleased with a design yet a Crescent shape is too much in this case......close the circle completely or get a chainsaw and fix it at oh dark thirty.....

The fact that you have not lost perspective is a tribute to the good job your father did in raising you. I guarantee that he's proud of you. And so am I.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Why not the "Swastika of Embrace" Holocaust Memorial.

No matter what your personal trainer told you, jumping to conclusions is not an aerobic exercise, and crescent rolls are not inherently evil.

Islam doesn't have a patent on the crescent.

That's not the type of crescent that it the symbol for Islam, though.

In what sense? it just the same as a cross in many form is seen as Cristian symbol

Islam doesn't have a patent on the crescent.

And the swastika was a Hindu symbol for a thousand years before the Nazis appropriated it.

Still, a swastika themed memorial to the holocaust would be considered, by most, to be a poor selection of a symbol.

The memorial is just a semi-circle.

The Islamic crescent has a specific shape.

I think this may be much ado about nothing, but that model is so crappy that it's impossible to tell what the thing will actually look like.

Well, thank you for that well reasoned argument Mr. Godwin.

This is a non-issue.

It looks more like a raspberry croissant, the symbol of France! Outrage!

Mmmmmmmm, croissant!

I see it's official name is supposedly "Crescent of Embrace." I think whoever chose that name should change it,

I agree.

I'm not going to get worked up over this.

It's a non-starter for me.

Can we, as conservatives, please not become hyterical ninnies like the looney left? Please?

You don't have a clue. Watch The Flight That Fought Back on Discovery Channel at 9pm on 9/11.

The Tin Foil Hat crowd will be proved wrong....again.
