Geraldo Rivera, senior correspondent for Fox News, told a group of Hispanic journalists vigilantes had created "hysteria along the borders" and advised his colleagues not to "let your newsroom push you around on the issue of immigration."
"Bust them on their hypocrisy," Rivera said at the annual awards gala of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists in Washington last week, according to a report by the Robert C. Maynard Institute of Journalism Education.
Rivera, who served as honorary gala chairman of the event, announced from the hotel stage that he was donating $80,000 to NAHJ and $20,000 to Unity: Journalists of Color.
"In vast sections of the country, there would not be a lawn mowed or a dish washed but for illegal immigrants," said Rivera. "I'm for not being embarrassed about who we are. If we make it, you can't forget where you come from."
Rivera was not the only speaker to raise the "hysteria" issue in an evening that otherwise honored journalists whose prize-winning stories largely involved violence, immigration and tragic death.

Why doesn't Fox fire this person?
It is absolutely untrue that citiens who report crimes -- and/or who form an organization to report crimes in anticipation of crimes occurring -- are "vigilantes". That word is reserved for citizens who take illegal action.
Fox should nail this mis-reporter to the wall, and FIRE HIM NOW.

I got sick of him years ago but I had really had it when he tried to incite a riot about a week after the media went into full gear, especially disappointed in Fox...Shep and him have both made me sick, but the one who really disappointed me was Gibson...i wrote fox for the first time...I will no longer watch if these people are reporting...Geraldo or Rivers needs to be dust in the wind...just like our forces sent him packing from Iraq...dust in the wind...

Whoreraldo theatened the NY Slimes reporter with a punch if she had been a man. I have seen what Whoreraldo looks like after a fight. On his whorible tv show, I believe he took a chair in the face and went around with his ugly faced taped much like the character in the movie Sideways. Whoreraldo was a pioneer in trash television, but he was not as smart as Jerry Springer, who did not want to get involved in the action, he only wanted to make money on it which he did. Poor Whoreraldo is left to infecting himself on the medium not for the money, and not for the story, but simply for glory with the delusion that his pampered a** is somehow standing up for the little guy. Even though no journalist but only the lowest form of media whore would be stupid enough to think that Big Al or his associates left behind anything of value in any stinking safe.
