VATICAN: HOMOSEXUALS ARE NOT TO BE ORDAINED AS CATHOLIC PRIESTS

"Expected Vatican Ban Roils American Church" Sep 22 4:15 PM US/Eastern

Word that a soon-to-be-released Vatican document will signal homosexuals are unwelcome in Roman Catholic seminaries even if they are celibate has devastated gay clergy _ and raised doubts among conservatives about whether an outright ban can be enforced.

A Vatican official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the document has not been released, said Thursday that the upcoming "instruction" from the Vatican's Congregation for Catholic Education will reaffirm the church's belief that homosexuals should not be ordained.

In recent decades, Vatican officials have stated several times that gays should not become priests because their sexual orientation is "intrinsically disordered" and makes them unsuitable for ministry.

Please explain if I've mischaracterised you.

Nah, why would I bother? Our disagreement is so fundamental that we can never agree. Quite simply, I respect and admire those that rise above temptation. I'm not a homosexual, but at my core, I'm a violent man. I'm good at violence, some primitive part of me enjoys it, and to be frank, I'm constantly tempted to revert to old ways.

However, am I today, a violent person? No. I long ago tamed that beast, and while inside, I might be itching to just stop the crap out of someone, I don't. I rise above the temptation.

Likewise, if some guy with homosexual leanings fights the temptation and goes to prayer instead, more power to him. I'm sure in my heart that God loves this guy all the more for turning away from sin, and turning to him instead.

The media deMANded something be done in response to the sex abuse crisis--which, when it first erupted, Bishop Gregory, then-President of the USCCB, accidentally blurted out: what we have here is a homosexual problem. (paraphrasing)--and now that something IS being done, that same media is crying out against the Big Bad Catholic Church. again.

Because, you see, while the media wanted something done, it didn't want THIS. It wanted the Church to become more heterodox, not less. More liberal, more progressive. Let priests marry, yes, and let women be ordained. And let gay priests marry each other. Let everyone have sex with whoever they want so that they won't target youth, there that's the ticket. Because obviously this celibacy rule is unnatural, and IT is causing the pederasty problem. So says the MSM.

This is going to be a difficult time, and homosexuality is going to be hard to root out of the seminaries. I have read accounts of pederast priests stating, in all sincerity, that they consider themselves celibate still, because they are not having intercourse with women. So if they can convince themselves of lies like this, it will be difficult to detect them and get them out.

As for the priests threatening to leave because they don't like the medicine....in all charity and with all due respect...I hope they leave and quickly.

Priests and others who lead, guide, and teach should only know their stuff (whichever field they are in) but should be role models and of high character.

I don't disagree LJ, and you can feel free to disagree if you want, but you'll never convince me that a man who turns to prayer instead of lust, even homosexual lust is NOT a man of high character. I'll look you dead in the eye and tell you without hesitation that a man who would do that is a man of the highest of character. Period.

You're continuing to solicit arguement and debate about your perceived merit of homosexuality and that's not what the thread is about.

It's about the Catholic Priesthood.

It's not a debate thread about the credibility, whatever, of or about homosexuals, but about the Priesthood and qualifications for the Priesthood.

Are you a Catholic?

The Scripture is clear and absolute about homosexuality. The issue of celibacy is something that you could read up about but after reading and engaging in instruction about Catholic faith and Catechism. As are also what "grace" means and why it's important for Priests and what a Priest is, in fact, in relationship to the Church and the faithful.

Beyond that, I don't know what your point here is.

What about pedophiles?

This edict addresses them. No homosexuals in the priesthood.

It should be clear that the central point that is being addressed by the Catholic church here is the morality of homosexuality itself. The ability of the person to resist that sin or not is irrelevant. If the Catholic church's policy was to allow celibate, for lack of a better word, homosexuals into the priesthood they would in effect be giving tacit approval of the sin of homosexuality.

Conservative priests were being weeded out ever since Vat II, while homos and libs were advanced. But as has been demonstrated, homosexuals are bad for business. They cost the church enough already.

*******

Wow, that is the most concise summation of the whole mess that I've ever seen. Very good!

Someone needs to explain to me what a celibate homosexual is.

If a person has sexual desires towards members of their own sex, but never acts on these desires, they are a celibate homosexual. It appears that some celibate homosexuals do not regard themselves as gay, but they are kidding themselves.

I knew that some had, but it seems there is still much work to undo 30+ years of damage.

Gayness is a behavior. It's a voluntary behavior. There's no such thing as an arsonist who doesn't light fires.

This is great news! Next the Vatican needs to do something about the Biblical criticism being taught in Catholic seminaries and schools (and churches). And I'm hoping evolution is also on the "most wanted" list, but I'm willing to be patient. At least some progress is being made.

"I've spoken to gay priests who feel demoralized."

Well, duh. They're immoral, so naturally they feel demoralized.

Celibacy is not "discreet" sex; it's NO sex.

Yeah, my opinion, also. I hope that any/all homosexuals who are in the Priesthood now do depart. It would be a big good step and a start afresh for everyone.
