Israelis urge U.S. to stop Iran's nuke goals
The Washington Times ^ | 9/30/2005 | David R. Sands

Posted on 09/30/2005 5:56:03 AM PDT by Dark Skies

The United States and its allies must act to stop Iran's nuclear programs -- by force if necessary -- because conventional diplomacy will not work, three senior Israeli lawmakers from across the political spectrum warned yesterday. As a last resort, they said, Israel itself would act unilaterally to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear arms. Iran will not be deterred "by anything short of a threat of force," said Arieh Eldad, a member of Israel's right-wing National Union Party, part of a delegation of Knesset members visiting Washington this week. "They won't be stopped unless they are convinced their programs will be destroyed if they continue," he said. Yuval Steinitz, chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said the best hope was for the United States and other major powers to make it clear to Iranian leaders now there was "no chance they will ever see the fruits of a nuclear program." "Threats of sanctions and isolation alone will not do it," said Mr. Steinitz. Yosef Lapid, head of the centrist opposition Shinui Party in the Knesset, added that Israel "will not live under the threat of an Iranian nuclear bomb."

And it sounds like they mean business.

"We feel we are obliged to warn our friends that Israel should not be pushed into a situation where we see no other solution but to act unilaterally" against Iran...

I wonder who, other than the U.S., Israel counts as friends.

Yep.  It's getting to the point where it's become obvious that the UN has once again failed to resolve a crisis situation with their "diplomacy".  Israel has the most to lose if Iran gets nukes.  The mullahs must be stopped or Israel & Iran will start lobbing nukes at each other.

I was privileged to have an Israeli Brigade Commander as a fellow classmate in 1977.

If he was representative of Israeli determination and the nature of that determination still exists today, I cannot fault your conclusion.

"Avoiding speaking the truth does not mean you can then avoid facing the consequences of those facts," he said.

Israel knows it is the prime target of Iran and Ahmedinejad. I would rather the U.S. take action, but I am beginning to have my doubts as to our political will (at least based on what the administration is saying).

On the other hand, Iraq might have been a first step toward moving against Iran. With a regime change in Iran, Iraq would have a much better chance of success and Israel would be able to breathe for a while. But with the Revolutionary guard firmly in the grasp of Ahmedinejad, I don't see an internal rebellion succeeding without external military action.

I'm sorry to say we don't have the will. There are too many country club PUBS around Bush now. Iraq is tough right now and everyone is nervous, congress won't control spending, border control is a joke and a huge SCOTUS nominee battle is about to be fought.

As in the past Israel stands alone.

This will be tricky.

With our forces in the theater, will they let them pass or ask them to turn away.

I have my own pet theory on how Israel will pull it off, but as they Jim Rob says, loose lips.... (no I am not a military or intelligence type, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last Night...)

Then again, what if Israel allied with another force for a 2 pronged attack, India perhaps?

Israel will not act alone. This interview and visit did not happen by accident. You'll notice the studied lack of comment from the Department of State and the White House?

They know what the IDF knows, if not more.

When it happens, it will be a joint operation, probably involving massive air assets from the 509th Bomb Wing, the IDF, and American tactical air. There are a lot of targets that need to be struck at once and in a single day. It will have to be a surprise attack.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

I agree...the groundwork is being laid for a powerful and comprehensive strike that will probably not only take out the nuke capability but open Iran up to an overturn of the current government.

Why tell US and not do it on their own? Israel with one of the world's best Air Force, and it should be a piece of cake to do it on their own even without the help of US. America won't intervene, and will wave hands as they pass over Iraq.

The problem is how do you take out the reactor and the accompanying underground facilities without killing Iranian civilians. The object of the exercise is to humiliate the Government, leaving it looking weak and foolish before the people while leaving the people alive to draw their own conclusions. The ayatollahs must be left to look oafish and bloviating in their anger and bluster. Civilian casualties and damage must be kept to an absolute minimum.

There will be a nationalist rallying to the flag, but after a while, it will sputter.

Just guessing, of course, but I think the taking out of the nukes would present an opportunity for getting rid of the entire hardline government. And as long as Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollahs are in power, they are going to threaten Iraq. In fact, when we leave Iraq, I think they will slide in (unless they are gone).

In the same way the lookout on the Titanic should have taken the wheel and steered the ship to safety by himself.

Here folks is an example of how deep hatred of Israel is in some. A nuclear Iran would be a disaster for the United States. It was American hostages that Iran took, remember.

But as a nuclear Iran would be a danger to Israel, the hate Israel uber alles folks would rather see the US suffer too then that Israel gain.

As a last resort, they said, Israel itself would act unilaterally to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear arms.

Israel has been saying this since the 1990's because there is no way Israel can tolerate a nuclear weapon on an IRBM/MRBM in Iran. I can't remember the exact year, but Iran launched 64 SCUD's into Iraq to take out Iranian opposition groups just over the border in Iraq (bet they boys and girls at U.S. Space Command got a few heat signatures and hence alarms on the launches from the thermal staring sensors on board various defense / spy birds).

Israel knows that, should no one else act, they will have no choice but to act. A mad mullah with a nuclear weapon on a missile will undoubtedly be gleeful to push the button, to wipe out the "zionist enemy" and establish the "last hour" on the face of the Earth by doing "allah's will" according to ha'dith sahih bukhari 4:52:176-177, 4:56:791, and ha'dith sahih muslim 41:6981-6985.

Ever wonder why the passion to kill the Jew? For a reader or lurker that is new here, if you don't know what these say, here they are. Email them to your family or friends as they probably have no idea where to look:

Hadith Sahih Bukhari [4:52:176] Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: Allah's Apostle said, "You (i.e. Muslims) will fight with the Jews till some of them will hide behind stones. The stones will (betray them) saying, 'O 'Abdullah (i.e. slave of Allah)! There is a Jew hiding behind me; so kill him.' "

Hadith Sahih Bukhari [4:52:177] Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him."

Hadith Sahih Bukhari [4:56:791] Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The Jews will fight with you, and you will be given victory over them so that a stone will say, 'O Muslim! There is a Jew behind me; kill him!' "

Hadith Sahih Muslim [41:6981] Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: You will fight against the Jews and you will kill them until even a stone would say: Come here, Muslim, there is a Jew (hiding himself behind me); kill him.

Hadith Sahih Muslim [41:6982] Ubaidullah has reported this hadith with this chain of transmitters (and the Words are): "There is a Jew behind me."

Hadith Sahih Muslim [41:6983] Abdullah b. 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: You and the Jews would fight against one another until a stone would say: Muslim, here is a Jew behind me; come and kill him.

Hadith Sahih Muslim [41:6984] Abdullah b. 'Umar reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: The Jews will fight against you and you will gain victory over them until the stone would say: Muslim, here is a Jew behind me; kill him.

Hadith Sahih Muslim [41:6985] Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.

Israel should be insulted and demand a co-Big Satan promotion before it takes out the Iran nukes on its own.

Or taking them out could be a way to move up.

Oh I'm sure. It might really get a big war going in the Middle East, but I sure don't see how Israel could survive a nuclear Iran. I could just imagine the Iranians missing from 1000 miles away and hitting the Dome of the Rock. We're about to step into an era unlike any before: mad mullahs with their fingers on the button. That's assuming nothing happens to Musharraf anytime soon and somebody less "moderate" (at best) comes to power in Pakistan.

This report said it was somewhere between 44 and 77 SCUD missiles that Iran had fired into Iraq at Iranian rebel groups by April 18, 2001. It is stated there may have been exaggeration on both sides regarding the number.

Very good points. In addition, the current Iranian régime has Mahdi fever

Once the demented anti-Western mindset of the Iranian dictatorship is really studied the question should be asked, why are these lunatics remaining in power, knowing these jihad promoting tyrants are a menace to the global economic security.

No problem.

In examining the "Mahdi",
'the one who shall bring forth justice' the gruesome terrorist goals of the enemy become much clearer.

The jihadic enemy's ultimate end result is to "cleanse" the entire globe of all "infidels" and then their 'Expected One' (The Mahadi) can emerge, thus Islamic terrorist financing OPEC Iran, with an offensive nuclear arsenal, is the civilized world's greatest security threat. A threat which must be countered expeditiously.

Ardent fundamentalist Islamists, as a rule, will not disuse anything regarding the Mahdi with "infidels'.

One movie depicting a Mahdi figure during the 1880's in The Sudan was the 1966 Cinerama epic "Khartoum" with a fine cast as well as the film's moving orchestral suite.

And the whole world will be safer after that because the anti-war pukes in this world will finally realize you can't trust the word of terrorists.
