A man with a test drive attitude towards women demonstrates his inablility to view them as a person rather than as a utilitarian object to be replaced at whim.

Lord....

I always hear liberals complain about how judgemental some conservatives are. Now I see the group of people they must be talking about.

NOW you see??? Weren't you on a thread just like this not so long ago, trolling for the same "judgmental" responses to your boasts about taking the wife out for a test drive? (Or did I confuse you with another similar libertarian troll?)

Who are you to question my relationship with my wife, or judge our decision to live together before marriage?

You joined a thread dealing with a serious study of the pernicious effects of cohabitation, you volunteered the information that you and the wife were an example of a couple who had shacked up before marriage, and (without offering any argument/analysis at all other than that ridiculous "test drive" image), you challenged the findings of the study. What did you expect in response except bewilderment that you somehow expected your own case to be different from those summed up in the study under discussion?

Exactly!

I hate to say this about my own gender but some women will do anything to have a man

True, and as we've also seen lately, it's not just men you have to worry about.

Thank you for the ping. Yes, it is an interesting subject, mostly because people take the "Well, it worked for us" mentality (inner experience) over objective truth (absolute right and wrong).

Experience does not determine truth, and the end does not justify the means.

"I hate to say this about my own gender but some women will do anything to have a man"

On the other hand, I guess it goes without saying that men will do anything to have a woman.

And vice versa...

I remember a thread I read some

months ago about a stepmother

that wouldn't allow her stepdaughter any

"fun" food...vegetarian stuff

only..the poor thing was only like 15...

what 15 year old wants to eat that crap..

to me thats a form of abuse IMHO

And vice versa, unfortunately.

"and (without offering any argument/analysis at all other than that ridiculous "test drive" image), you challenged the findings of the study."

Apparently you didn't bother to read my post. I explicitly stated that I see value in a relationship going through several stages before taking the final step in marriage. I also specifically stated that my relationship with my wife might have still worked without cohabitation, but that it would have put more stress on our relationship. But you choose to ignore all that and just focus on the tongue-in-cheek car analogy.

"What did you expect in response except bewilderment that you somehow expected your own case to be different from those summed up in the study under discussion?"

I expected an adult discussion about how the study was not absolute and that there can be instances where cohabitation can be healthy. My own personal relationship differs from the study results and I choose to share it. My mistake. Had I known I would be challenged by a bunch of self-righteous known-it-alls then I wouldn't have bothered.

Sounds like the step-mother likes her position of authority a little too much!

I think in relationships it all comes down to trust. If you cant trust your man with your kids...........lose him. NOW!
If you can't trust your man totally with everything, then you don't have the soul mate that you should be with.
If there is not enough "trust' to marry, then what the heck are you wasting time for?

I remember a guy named Newt who used to talk about character.he dumped his bride while she was going through cancer treatment. there's plenty of room on the hypocrisy train, come aboard! everyone's pro-marriage(until they catch the wife doing the horizontal mambo with the pool boy)

Are your relationship stages what you will recommend for your own daughters?

Would you tell your daughter that she has been doing enough sleep overs and it's time she shacked up and test drove her man to see if he's marriage material?

There's too much of the "Oh, he'll eventually change" mentality out there, all the while ignoring the red flags. It goes back to what apackof2 said earlier: "some women will do anything to have a man."

There are evil men out there who know that, and they worm their way into a relationship with them.

I thought about going to live with that freeper who shall remain nameless. Too much temptation. There's a reason why God put a few hundred miles between us. I suppose the whole living together works for some but most people it doesn't.

Ah, the red herring of hypocrisy. Doesn't really have much to do with whether something is right or not, does it?

I mean, if your doctor is morbidly obese and has been telling you to lose weight or you'll die, do you ignore him because "he's a hypocrite?"

depends, is his name Bill Bennet?
does gambling being morally right or wrong depend on the amount spent and if you're good for the money? I'm not a libertarian, but the more I get preached at by the pharisee politicians, the more I lean that way.
