Ann Coulter just took apart SCOTUS nominee on the Mike Rosen show (My report)
Ann Coulter's appearance on the Mike Rosen show, 850am KOA ^ | This morning, Mon. Oct. 4th | Report from Mike Rosen show

Posted on 10/04/2005 10:39:32 AM PDT by ajolympian2004

Ann Coulter just took apart President Bush's SCOTUS nominee on the air during her appearance on the Mike Rosen show here in Denver on 850am KOA. She called for listeners to write their senators to oppose the nomination. Wish you could have heard it!

Ann said - "Totally unqualified", called Judge Roberts "a 'dream' candidate in light of this nomination", mentioned "cronyism" over and over. Much more that I'm trying to digest. I called the station to see if they saved the audio, but no luck on that. Mike Rosen was just about speechless as Ann went on and on about why this was a lousy choice.

I agree with Ann. Huge mistake and missed opportunity.

Ann's choice, Janice Rodgers-Brown. Not enough intestinal fortitude in the White House to go with that choice.

Can't wait for Ann's column on this nomination later this week.

What a pity.

We can only hope now that Miers will be so mortified and fearful of appearing disloyal to Bush that she will not dare to stray from the strictest conservative line. Those of us who are outraged by her nomination serve an important function in that regard. She has got to hear loud and constant that she has no room for error, that if she takes the slightest Souter-style leftward drift, the memory and reputation of her mentor Bush will be sullied beyond cleansing among the conservatives who put him into the White House twice.

A fight would be likely to win and

Perhaps, I was speculating as to whether or not Bush had been counting votes.

even if we lost, would have rallied conservatives who are the key to the 2006 election. This took the wind out of their sails.

If by “took the wind out of their sails” you mean they will not show up for the 2006 elections then they are neither truly conservative nor very mature. One wins elections by getting more votes than the other side. If one expects that the side they agree with more to always do what they want then that person will always be disappointed, out of power, or both.

The only place that conservatives can wield power is from within the Republican Party; if whenever we do not get our way we take ball and go home we will lose the gains we have made. I do not agree with everything Bush has done, or is doing, but I – gladly – voted for him twice because he was way better than the much less conservative option; politics is the art of the possible and grand battle royals are not always, or even usually, conducive to victory.

What is your problem anyway? Can't a guy voice his opinion about a girl's looks? I see all these people talking about what a "hottie" Ann Coulter is and I just don't get it. If they can say she's hot, I can say she's not. That sickens you? Maybe you need to grow up. I don't care what Ann Coulter looks like. It's her personality I can't stand. I'm just surprised so many find her physically attractive.

she's obviously qualified. she's one of the top lawyers in the country. The only question is what her views are.

The idea that she would need to be influenced by others in order to come to any definitive, coherent conclusion on key Constitutional issues is the precise reason why should never have been nominated in the first place.

I don't want a Supreme Court justice that needs to be hectored into arriving at the proper decisions, I want one who knows what's right from the start and doesn't feel compelled to act only on the prompting of others.

Ann said - "Totally unqualified",

She doesn't know that. The fact that Miers hasn't been a judge doesn't mean she's totally unqualified. We don't know that, and that's the reason I'm not entirely happy, but I think I should give GW the benefit of the doubt. After all, Justice Rehnquist had no experience as a judge and worked as an Arizona lawyer before becoming a Supreme Court judge.

William Rehnquist was the most unlikely of appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court. He had no experience as a judge, and his boss, former President Richard Nixon, would embarrassingly refer to him as "Renchburg." But after serving more than 33 years on the Supreme Court, the last 19 as chief justice, Rehnquist proved to be among the greatest justices ever. He set the judicial standard at a very high level. Rehnquist took his seat on the Supreme Court on Jan. 7, 1972. A mere two months later, he brazenly disagreed with all the other justices and issued his first lone dissent.

He went on to establish his reputation for dissenting alone, earning him the nickname "the Lone Ranger." Rehnquist was never one to seek accolades from the media or his colleagues, and penned more than 410 dissenting opinions over his marvelous career. LINK.

Nothing like making ad hominem (or ad mulierem ) attacks when you have nothing of substance to employ in refuting Ann.

Ann Coulter's conservative credentials go back much farther than George W. Bush's.

Meier's qualifications for office are mainly her close personal attachment to the Bushes.

Bush has provided a candidate whose qualifications for the SCOTUS will please liberal Dems and RINOs, not conservatives or even mainstream Republicans.

Ann, as usual, is right on the money, and Bush is increasingly in the outfield with respect to his actions and their impact on his supporters.

YOU SAID..."After all, Justice Rehnquist had no experience as a judge and worked as an Arizona lawyer before becoming a Supreme Court judge."

This needs to be said...not all law schools are equivalent. The standards for acceptance at the top law schools are much tougher than at second tier and lower tier law schools. In general, you need to be smarter to get into a top law school. Maybe thats elitist..buts its reality.

Now Rehnquist graduated number 1 in his class at Stanford...a top law school. Actually, Stanford is arguably one of the top two or three universities in the entire country in just about any field you name.

My guess is he was also editor of his schools law review...which meant he had already established a paper trail of writings and scholarly articles.

Please tell me what articles and academic achievements Ms Miers achieved at SMU.

No, she didn't mean it as a compliment at all. She viscerally hates Roberts. I don't know why, but she does.

Mark Levin is a BRILLIANT and knowledgeable Constitutional Law expert. I would hardly call Mark a "nerd" nor "nerdy".

My question stands...it has not been answered by anyone on this forum...nor will it I suspect.

Here it is again..

Is Ms Miers the BEST QUALIFIED of all the existing excellent candidates for SCOTUS...and if so WHY?

I don't know, and that's why I posted that I wasn't entirely happy, simply, because I don't know much about her. However, I'm willing to give the President the benefit of the doubt as I've previously stated.

Yes.

RKBA. Luttig and Brown never touched it. Miers did, and in originalist manner.

You continue to validate my origional statement when you do not have the knowledge of Texas politics in 1988.

Whether or not she is the "best" is not nearly as important as whether or not she was better than most of the other potential nominees that the president could have chosen.

I haven't heard one person here dispute the notion that she was at the very bottom of his short list.

That's a matter of opinion, and largely moot. You can't get the candidate I would consider the best candidate thru the Senate.
