What about her age?
October 5, 2005 | Michael Katz

Okay, lets say for a moment that Miers winds up voting with Scalia and Thomas. Let's also say that she is qualified. Let's also forget about the fact that cronyism played a part here. She could wind up being a great justice. The one thing I still cannot get around is why Bush and his people would be willing to risk this all on someone who is already 60 years old!!! Does anyone else on here, besides all the other reasons against her, see a problem with her age (then again if she winds up being a bad justice, we'll be lucky she wasn't 45-50 when Bush put her on)?

Sure - but most of that was ONE President!

Stop insulting us old bastards! I've still got thirty years left to work.

Damn straight. You don't think any of these young 30-somethings are gonna want to pay our social security for the next 30 years do you?

No.

I think the same people who are saying that she is too old were saying that Roberts was too young.

1945 was a very good year.

Maybe her age made her the person she is today.

I think she almost certainly will still be alive and serving at age 80. I'm not so sure acctuary (sp?) tables support that assertion.

Yes, let's forget it because it's baseless. Bush has selected hundreds of people, perhaps thousands, for positions in the government so far. Almost none were people he knew well before their selection.

Yet if he picks just one person that he knows well, that's cronyism? Gimme a break.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 72. How much longer do you think we'll have to endure her?

1945 was a very good year.

I was born on June 29th of that fine year.

According to National Vital Statistics tables, a 60 year old white woman will live, on average, another 24 years. About the same as a 55 year old white man.

Sure - but most of that was ONE President!

And that took a Great Depression.

It is very hard for an American political party to win 3 presidential elections in a row. It's almost impossible to win 4, and it is impossible to win 5.

With her past problems it could be anyday. If I had to make book on it, I'd put the over/under at 4 years.

I'm 60 years old. 60 is only old to someone who isn't there yet.

Isn't it time to update your screen name?

It seems old to me, and I've only got a couple of years to go.

60 is not old ....
her life expectancy is at least another 20 years.
Besides that, no one knows when they are going to die.
Roberts is only fifty but could get hit by a car tomorrow.
People really need to get over their bigoted feelings about age.

The answer is obvious....she assured the President that she would live until she was 90. All we have to do is trust him and all will be well!
