The Division of Adult Protective Services protects the health and welfare of elderly and disabled adults. Adult Protective Services are provided to individuals who are 18 years of age or older and are victims of actual or potential abuse, neglect, or exploitation. This mistreatment may be caused by others or self-inflicted. DSS is authorized, by the Omnibus Adult Protection Act of the South Carolina Code of Laws, to investigate all reports and provide services. Services are provided to meet the adults' basic needs and to ensure their safety.

Some people are required to report by the nature of their profession. People in the following professions are required to make a report if they have reason to believe a vulnerable adult has been or is likely to be abused, neglected, or exploited; physician, nursem dentist, optometrist, medical examiner, coroner, other medical, mental health or allied health professional, Christian Science practitioner, religious healer, school teacher, counselor, psychologist, mental health or mental retardation specialist, social or public assistance worker, caregiver, staff or volunteer of an adult day care center or of a facility, or law enforcement officer. Also, any person who has actual knowledge of the abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a vulnerable adult must report the incident.

As it is an affair within the state of South Carolina involving private citizens, common sense would argue that this is an issue for South Carolinians and South Carolinians only. However don't let that stop you. Why don't we just skip the bothering local officials and jump straight to calling our federal officials to involve themselves in an internal state issue? Don't you have a form letter to send to the President or a few Senators?
And for the record, as these folks are from out of town, I seriously doubt there is anyone she is in cahoots with. And no Scientologists for 500 miles.

Well even if they did report there was no abuse, would you believe them if it didn't fit into the 'sky is purple' view of the world?
Does the fact that a man is being murdered make any impression at all on you? Does it bother you that he specifically requested to be kept on the ventilator, and it may be taken away anyway? Is there any circumstance in which you believe a person has the right to live? Nevermind. You've answered that over the course of your posting history.

If the local authorities by SC law are holding the understanding it's not murder then it necessarily can't be called murder can it? But please. Increase the hyperbole as the situation calls for it.

Such instances would be if there is no living will in place, the state has set a standard what is life and what isn't (see Scalia's Cruzan decision), or the family acts in such a manner that they don't want the tubes disconnected. As the wife, who lived with her husband for 58 years, may have an understanding the children don't about her husband's wishes, and the state of SC gives her that right, it is her decision. A decision she will have to live with one way or the other. A decision that you won't and therefore is none of your business
The man had a long conversation with his family and his doctor. He stated, in plain English, that he wants to remain on the ventilator. So don't give me that crap about his wife knowing he doesn't. If you have proof that the man is lying, and he really wants to be removed from the ventilator, produce your evidence, or STFU.
I wonder if this man's wife is suffering from dementia or Alzheimers? His children clearly remember what their father wants, living will or no living will. I can't possibly see why someone who has been with his/her spouse for all these years would deliberately go against a spouse's spoken wishes.
Christopher Reeves was on a ventilator, and did quite well expressing his views.
He verbally revoked his living will. See my post to Little Jeremiah. Maybe his wife has health issues and doesn't understand.

Bookman states he felt that Chambers was off of sedation and aware enough to comprehend and make decisions regarding life support.

Bookman, Potter and her siblings considered the Iowa living will revoked and transferred Chambers two weeks later to Anne Maria Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, a facility that specializes in rehabilitating ventilator patients, in North Augusta, South Carolina.
Chambers was subsequently transported to the hospital where he is now receiving treatment for the pneumonia. Meanwhile, the guardianship battle continues.
Which makes this whole case a non-issue. But don't let that stop you or World Nut Daily from bothering the poor folks in South Carolina from your 'caring' calls (as I see you posted their numbers further up). But as I said earlier, let's just skip the local officials and start ringing the lines in Washington to bother those hacks. Do you want me to post the numbers or do you have them memorized by heart?
