Last week, Jeanine Pirro assembled the press corps in Albany to announce a statewide advertising campaign meant to draw attention to her criminal justice agenda, a pillar of her campaign to unseat Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton next year.
But if Ms. Pirro, the Westchester County district attorney, hoped the event would give her flagging campaign the lift it needed, she might have been mistaken. Mrs. Clinton's political operation moved swiftly to undercut the announcement's significance and, more important, deprive her of any positive news coverage: a political operative from the state party was dispatched to the Pirro event to hand out leaflets noting the anemic size of the advertising buy, $10,000 for radio ads.
The best response Ms. Pirro's campaign could muster was that the actual size of the buy was a mere $40,000; that same day, Mrs. Clinton herself went about her business in Washington, which included an appearance on the Hill with her Republican and Democratic colleagues to promote a homeland security initiative.
The episode captures a gap that even some Republicans are beginning to find troubling. While Ms. Pirro struggles to get her campaign off the ground, the Clinton operation has already shown itself to be an imposing adversary, employing to its advantage both the benefits of incumbency and the skills of a well-financed and battle-tested political team.
Ms. Pirro's campaign faces difficulties that seem to stem from her relative inexperience as a statewide candidate - she ran as the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor in 1986 but abruptly withdrew - from factionalism within the New York Republican Party and from wariness among conservatives who are unhappy about her support for abortion rights and gay rights. The Pirro campaign has not even opened its headquarters yet, and her fund-raising and poll numbers lag far behind Mrs. Clinton's.

That's a given. The GOP needs to work twice as hard to overcome the inherent advantages enjoyed by the Democrats (MSM bias and election fraud.)
After all these years, we all know exactly what Hillary is and have seen first hand the damage she is capable of doing if she had more time and/or more political power. There is no excuse for the Republican party not to do all it can to help her rival Pirro unseat her. Any government office is the last place Hillary needs to be.
If 'the party' were interested (i.e. had the nerve) to launch an all-out campaign to defeat Hillary - they could. I think neither the White House nor the Senate 'leadership' are interested in taking on Hillary. Whether it's the missing FBI files, lack of guts, or sheer ineptitude - the Republican leadership will NOT conduct a serious campaign against her or her campfollowers.
This is a pitiful sight. Two socialist women with thugs for husbands clawing at each other, albeit with factors that make it unfair like a lack of funds and the bias of the press.
Message to the national GOP! Don't whine about not getting enough money for your candidtate from your base when she/he is a right wing socialist, pro abortion, gun grabber. The press is going to screw whoever the nominee is anyway.

You think the Republican Party will recover sufficiently after so many conservatives turned on the President over Miers?
Disunity in the ranks is reflected in the Senate, in which Republicans enjoy a slight numerical majority while really existing in a stalemate with a small group of Republicans who feel as if upsetting the status quo might threaten their jobs.
Some in the ranks assume that the Republican Party has the strength it needs to put down the Democrats and rule as a majority party. Most do not agree. The Republican rank and file are a diverse group of conservatives with a host of differing opinions. While most share the same goals, every faction gives different weight to different goals, and this is again reflected in our Congress.
Are conservatives in danger? We are the clear majority in the electorate. We aren't in danger of losing elections in most of the country. Even if Hillary ran in 2008, she'd lose. She is unelectable for the Presidency. Most people don't trust her. Women dislike her because she is too manly. Men dislike her because she is dishonorable. The only people who like her are the deluded, the young, and the Liberals - and that will only net her about 40% of the vote nationwide, assuming everyone who likes her turns out to vote.
Where is the danger to Republicans then?
The danger is that we might not show up at all to cast our ballots. Our factions that are and have been for a long time critical of the President and his policies would rather teach the President a lesson than trust him to fulfill his promises in the manner which he sees fit. He has deviated time after time from what they think of as the right path. Even if these critics don't show up to vote on election day in 2006 and again in 2008 because they're still bitter at not having a puppet President of their own, Hillary would probably still be defeated, but if these critics demoralize all the rest and become activists against even the moderate Republicans, we stand to lose big time - and we'll have done it to ourselves.
If I was in a laughing mood, I'd insist that it was time for America to withdraw from the Supreme Court... it's a quagmire... it is another Vietnam. But instead I only offer up the advice that we must stay the course and not let perfect become the enemy of good enough.

It's bad enough that Pirro is some kind of super RINO.But reading the NYT hit piece you can almost hear the cheering in the background. Disgusting!
