Setting an example: Which New England RINO can we take out?
My addled brain | November 23, 2005 | ModernDayCato

Posted on 11/25/2005 8:46:05 AM PST by ModernDayCato

I'm getting a little sick and tired about reading about the RINOs here on the east coast who keep scuttling things and throwing monkey wrenches into the progress toward holding Republican feet to the fire.

Isn't there some way we New Englanders can send a message to our RINOs in Congress that we are gunning for them?

Isn't there a somewhat vulnerable RINO that we can target and get rid of?

Don't any of my fellow FReepers know of a good candidate out there that could be run against one of these idiots?

Can't we form RINO-PAC and scare some of these people straight, a la Club for Growth?

Anyone?

Chafee.

Vote for Laffey.

If Laffey doesn't win the primary, don't vote for Chafee anyway. he is the ultimate RINO going so far as to announce he would write in G.W.B.'s father rather than vote for him.

Even Collins and Snowe wouldn't go that far.

Who has the money to run against Shays or Johnson??

Plus, those peole have comprimised themselves so much, the axiom that we must run for the moderates is a truism here.

We have to run for the moderate dems to swing a vote for an R to win anything here.

Indeed we can, and it'll last until somebody says 'abortion' or 'drug legalization' or 'patriot act'. So long as we care more about the things we disagree over than about the importance of agreeing to disagree, conservatives will stay weak.

So far as getting rid of New England's RINOs is concerned, we won't, unless the lot of us vote for the Democrat, no matter how bad. If you say you have to vote for Snowe in 2006, or at least go third party or stay home, then you won't have much of a complaint when you have to vote for Snowe again in 2012.

I think RINOs are just a fact of life here in NE. As bad as they are, they serve the important role of keeping control of Congress with the Republicans majority.

Would you rather have one or two true conservatives representing NE in a Democratically controlled Congress?

Best aim for those RINOs outside of NE where the effort will pay off, imo.

What the hell's the story up there? The same thing happens here in CT -- no one will run against Shays or any of the other RINO idiots, but they all bitch about them.

We are just lost Conservatives in New England. :(

Yep, but that would TAKE running yourself.. Thats why there's so many RINOs. (1)Patriotic citizens won't run.. or (2)the voting public won't elect them.. Its (1) I assume thats most of the problem.. That it takes more money to run than you can ever hope to get from the job, unless your dishonest and patriotism is a sound bite.. and campaign coffers are a glorified slush fund..

Work to elect 60 repub senators, then there won't be a problem. Work to elect 60 democrat senators, and they will immediately start impeaching Bush.

You don't get it. New Englanders elect RINO's because they like RINO's. Take them out and you'll end up with a dem in office.

As distasteful as RINO's are, aren't they at least a moderately better choice then a dem?

That will work, though I would NEVER vote for a Dem. EVER. I'd rather find someone more conservative and put them up.

In the case of Shays, I know for a FACT that there is general disgruntlement with him. Unfortunately I was redistricted out of his district, or I WOULD have run against him.

The Dem would probably have beaten me if I won the primary (which I most definitely could have), but I would have knocked that pompous windbag off.

Then you'll have RINOs forever.

I'm not sure I agree. There are still plenty of ways for a newcomer to run and build up enough to win. I saw a friend of mine run twice against my entrenched Rep, and come within 700 votes of beating him.

He also came away with many contacts, and while he certainly was not accepted in the Old Boys Network, but he did ok.

Why are you bothering to post on this thread if you're already defeated?

My wife just told me that she thought the big Kennedy barely got re-elected last time around, and he whined and begged and pissed and moaned. Does anyone know if this is true?

Bear in mind that the difference between Republican and Democratic Senators is that the latter constantly live in fear of a primary challenge while the former don't.

Bull.

In. The theory with Shays is to run a real conservative against him in the primary. The conservative will win, then get killed in the general.

You lose the seat for that cycle, but get rid of the blowhard.
