 Free Dominion is in dire straits -- the past month has been an absolute horror show.  Many of you noticed this morning that Free Dominion was down for awhile... our service provider shut us down... And, we were informed this morning that we have to move by the end of the month.

 To make matters worse, we have been dealing with a computer that is on its last legs.

 The upshot of it all is that we are going to need some help to keep Free Dominion going because we can't afford to do it out of our own pockets this month.

Until this site had a number of hardware & software upgrades, we used to groan and creak anytime there was a spike in traffic ( to say nothing of attacks ) so we developed fallback sites.

Mine was ( and is ) Free Dominion, and I spent several elections there when we got overloaded.

I think it got lost in the various crashes, but I posted "An Earthquake just rolled through Georgia," on FD, live-blogging the 2002 election where we tossed the Democrats out of office statewide.

They had dominated offices in the state since the Civil War, but voters finally got fed up with the incessant taxes, corruption, nepotism, gerrymandering, and pretending to be conservative to get votes, then ruling like little Ted Kennedy's.

The good news is, FD is back.

On the down side, nearly all the recent replies are disruptors. I suspect a 'bot... or a very busy kiddie.

When I checked in quickly around noon (Alberta time) the site was down so I restarted the server and everything came back up fine. I don't have time today to try to determine/confirm the cause, but as it came right back I expect it was simply too much traffic doing simultaneous high load database queries.

Although I check in here a lot to make sure things are running smoothly, I am not here all the time. So, for the regulars, whenever you notice a site problem and the PM system is unavailable, I would appreciate it if you could send me a quick email at fdmichael@gmail.com so that I can be alerted to the problem and deal with it.
