Nowhere to run for Pirro? (Looking More Like She WILL Drop Out!)
NY Daily News ^ | 12/6/05

Jeanine Pirro is preparing to call off her challenge to Sen. Hillary Clinton, but she might be boxed out of the state attorney general's race, too, Republican insiders said yesterday.

Well-placed GOP sources said there could very well be no room for Pirro on the Republican ticket because potential attorney general candidate Chauncey Parker has impressed county leaders.

Parker, a former Manhattan prosecutor who is the state criminal justice czar, now has the inside track on getting the party nod to vie for the attorney general post being vacated by Democrat Eliot Spitzer, the sources said.

Pirro apparently has fallen victim to the feud between her mentor, Gov. Pataki, and Senate GOP leader Joe Bruno - and to the taint around her husband, Al, a convicted tax felon.

"The husband has become a much too heavy load for her to carry into the attorney general's race," said Roger Stone, a veteran GOP strategist.

While Pirro's aides claim her Senate campaign is still alive, they confirmed she has no public appearances or events scheduled in the coming weeks.

"We don't have anything public yet," said Pirro campaign manager Brian Donohue.

The pressure on Pirro to scuttle her poorly funded campaign is growing.

Even her local state lawmaker, state Sen. Nick Spano (R-Yonkers), told the Daily News she should switch lanes. "I think Jeanine would make an excellent attorney general," he said.

Meanwhile, Al Pirro, shot down a published report that claimed he tried to undermine his wife's Senate run.

"I fully support her decision" to stay the course, he said.

The NY Republican Party is the model of the country club. It just seems to barely exist as anything more than a sideshow in a growing circus. We can only hope that NY continues to lose seats in the house with every census.

Wierd situation. But then again, the definition of a REPUB nowadays is rarely anything conservative...and you really have to be a frothing leftist to survive in New York I would think...

Great. Now they have one more chance to get it right. Pick a fireman or cop from the 9/11 heros or a Marine back from the fight against the Islamists and put the GOP and Conservative Parties behind them and make the next twelve months hell for Hillary.

Will they? Of course not. They will pick some hack legislator who will get 30% of the vote.

It would seem that her candidacy for the Senate is all but over.

I hear she's a good DA, but her husband's record would probably rule out any statewide office or congressional seat.

So, if Ms. Pirro drops out out of the race, who becomes the fav for the GOP nomination?

Unfortunately, I have to admit that I agree with you. OK everyone knows that Pirro's husband was convicted of tax evasion---so it's not something that Hillary can pull out of a hat to shock the public. We know that Pirro isn't a conservative (but how many other NY Republicans aren't either) What can it be that has the party turning its nose up at this woman? C'mon, it can't be that she's a woman, (and a feisty one at that). Weld is as exciting as a bowl of cherrios. And who exactly is this dude they're pushing for state AG? I switched to Republican this year, but as far as local NY politics goes, I know Republicans are in such bad shape and in many ways so full of doo-doo. Pirro really is the only one that can give Hilldabeast a run for her money.

Exactly, they will pick a member of the country club, not someone who could invigorate the party and encourage new membership. I would be willing to bet that there are a lot of voters in NY sick and tired of the dems. But, they just have no viable choices come election time to voice that displeasure. When this occurs for a few election cycles, you lose membership and ultimately, become irrelevant.

Pirro was not the perfect candidate, but if the NY Republican party was truly focused on what matters, i.e. winning elections, rather than who's turn it was to run, they could see that Pirro would have given Hillary fits. Why? Simple, Hillary relies on the "victim" thing to win elections. She gets in the race, plays like a victim, wins sympathy and carries the day. Amazing how she goes from being the smartest, most powerful woman on the face of the Earth to a poor wittle victim, huh? I digress, she would not be able to play that card with Pirro. Hillary, for all her reputation, is not one-billionth of the politician her husband was. She is a one trick pony. Deprive her of that trick, she is done.

Interesting. If you go to her web site, her biography has no mention of a husband at all.

Agreed. I didn't see a whole lot to get excited about either.

She's better than Hillary like the flu is better than pneumonia.

They are both pro abort and anti gun. The rest is just window dressing.

Pirro was a very weak candidate in my opinion. I don't live in New York so perhaps others have more insight into her abilities. None the less her bailing out should be taken advantage of not the opportunity for absolute surrender.

That is why you find a hero of 9/11 or the war against Islamo Fascism and taker her on fully with money and the backing of every third party in the state except the liberals. You make Hillary take positions she doesn't want to take. Make her sound like Murtha or Dean instead of Reagan.

The GOP in Illinois could have done the same in 2004 against Osama Bin Laden but failed. We will see if the New York GOP has more stones. I tend to doubt it.

I think you're right...corruption and graft are rampant in the Democrat party and the Republicans in the state have to lean left to get a portion of the leftist NYC voters.
