Labor Advocate to Oppose Clinton
NY Times ^ | December 6, 2005 | CONRAD MULCAHY

Posted on 12/06/2005 8:36:30 PM PST by neverdem

A labor advocate who has recently taken on Wal-Mart plans to run against Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination for the United States Senate, and is basing his campaign on her past support for the war in Iraq.

The advocate, Jonathan Tasini, said he has already had expressions of support from Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar protester who lost her son in the war and who camped for weeks outside President Bush's Texas ranch demanding to meet him.

"Senator Clinton is out of step with the values of a majority of New Yorkers," Mr. Tasini said in explaining his decision to run. "While a majority of New Yorkers support an end to the war, Senator Clinton has repeatedly voiced her support for a war that continues to accumulate unacceptable costs, in terms of both American and Iraqi lives and our own government spending."

Senator Clinton remains hugely popular among New Yorkers, and Mr. Tasini is likely to face significant obstacles to even getting on the ballot. But his decision to run does reflect how the senator is facing increasing heat for her past support of the war. Last week, Mrs. Clinton issued a statement explaining her position on Iraq, and calling for the start of troop withdrawals by next year.

A labor leader who was president of the National Writers Union from 1990 to April 2003, Mr. Tasini was the lead plaintiff in Tasini vs. The New York Times, an electronic rights case in which freelance writers sued The New York Times Company and several other media corporations over publishing rights. The case, which reached the United States Supreme Court in 2001, was decided in favor of the plaintiffs and led to the establishment of a compensation fund for freelance writers.

Recently, Mr. Tasini has used his blog, Working Life...

I'm betting he's been secretly encouraged by HRC's people to run, so that she can build up her "street cred" with the military, and oppose an easy-to-beat anti-war nut.

Gee, you think this may be an effort to unify a vote against her final challenger?

Oh well,if he has Cindy Sheehan's support he can't lose. (sarcasm off).

Does Cindy have a life? A job? A family? She's all over the place.

Okay Jonathan, fess up!!

How much is The Hildabeaste paying you to do this?

IMHO, you've got a great future as a pile of ground up hamburger meat. The Hildabeaste don't fool around! Just ask Vince Foster.

The phrase "Chew you up and spit you out" comes to mind.

If I didn't know that the radical left really has come to detest Hillary (proving, of course, how dumb they are), I'd think she was paying war protesters to show up at her speeches just to "prove" her phony move to the center. She's in Saratoga next week and the anti-war idiots already have their permit.

Democrats outnumber Republicans in New York 8-1. After you take away the dead vote, the animal vote and the double voting, you are down to 2-1.

Upstate will not all vote for Hillary. They lost jobs and she promised them jobs. Her opponent will use that. It will get spiked by the MSM however.

IMHO this is a ploy to give her a more centrist personality. She has nothing to fear from the left. The left is her friend. Abortionists and gay rights activists don't give a flying RAT about the war. If the Bent One was persecuting it, they would be out in full force supporting it.

If Shrillary was President there would be no anti-war protesting. Just look at Kosovo. Nope, didn't see any anti war protestors on mall. No 60 minute exposes, no atrocities, no unilateralism. Nothing.

Where did you get that number from, Sean Hannity? Dems have a little over 5 million registered voters in NY State. Pubbies have a little over 3 million registered.

Mayor's win reflects liberalism's death

"This might have been a golden age for Democrats in the city.

"They have owned the town forever. They enjoy a 5-to-1 edge in voter registration."

It's bad in the city, but not as bad as 8-to-1. Hillary needs the statewide total. IIRC, she won by a 12% margin.
