Remember that the WAPO will find any reason possible to bring down the rating ob President Bush with his base. If a Bible verse does not handle the Christian then they need to run for office themsleves.

I'm reserving judgment until I hear what John Kerry has to say about this very important issue.

The first thing you read when you open the card is: "The Lord is my strength and my shield; In Him my heart trusts; So I am helped and my heart exults, And with my song I give thanks to Him." (Psalm 28:7) Yeah. That is real secular. I thought it was awesome.

Nothing wrong with that. The problem is that they've used an Old Testament passage for at least the last couple of years, which is obviously an attempt to prevent offending Jews and Moslems. At least they could have chosen a prophetic OT passage from Isaiah.

And what's wrong with saying "Merry Christmas" at Christmas?! Think about how idiotic it would be to send a "Happy Holiday" card to a Jewish friend for Passover.

4 Repay them for their deeds, for the evil that they do. For the work of their hands repay them; give them what they deserve.

Yes I like that Psalm's message.

Aquinasfan, what part of Psalms 28:7 is obsolete or no longer relevent to your Christian faith? Is Jesus Christ still your Lord?

I received mine yesterday too, and was EXTREMELY happy to see that bible verse printed on the card. Why that verse you might ask? I believe this was a way of W connecting with his Christian family, letting us know that the LORD is the one suppling the strength for all the problems his is facing. It's God who he counts on! It's comforting to know that he is solid as a rock in the Lord's foundation. Thank you Mr. President for sharing that with us! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS!!

What relevance does this passage have to Christmas?

There are plenty of NT passages that describe the birth of Christ. Why wouldn't the White House use these?

Luke 1:26-38

In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,
to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary.
The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."
Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.
But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.
You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."
"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"
The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[c] the Son of God.
Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month.
For nothing is impossible with God."
"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

Luke 2:8-20

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid.
I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,
and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

The garage that did the emissions checks on my cars this year sent me a cheery Christmas Card with a big "Merry Christmas" and a coupon for $5 off on my next oil change. The video store down the street has a big sign that says "Merry Christmas! Take 20% off all used DVD's!" By printing a verse from Psalms, George Bush just told me that to him this season is not just another opportunity to make a quick sale. When you open his card the first thing you read is "The Lord is my strength and my shield; In Him my heart trusts". I'd rather hear that from my Commander in Chief than one more repetition of Luke. I already got that from my local garage mechanic.

I guess it depends on how serious your belief in Christ is. For me it is serious. For you and President Bush, it doesn't mean much.

With a quote like that, you wonder why so many people think BornAgains are such idiots. Stop trying to act like you know what is in Bush's heart.

There is a Bible verse in the card.

These cards go out to Americans of all faiths. I have no problem with "Happy Holidays".
