GULFPORT, Miss. - U.S. Sen. Trent Lott (news, bio, voting record) says personal losses he suffered because of Hurricane Katrina will weigh on his decision whether to run for re-election in 2006.
-- snip --
Another consideration, he said, is that he is "so disappointed with the (Bush) administration's response to this disaster that I'm almost embarrassed."

...Sayonara. I tried to. :D
It seems like he's trying to be the next McCain.
He's well on his way...in being a pain in the @$$...esp. after his Terrorists' Bill of Rights/McPain-Fiengold bills :^)
The only thing here in Mississippi that we hate MORE than a turncoat (liberal) Republican, is ALL dim-O-Rats!

taylor is a socialist, and I can assure you that the 70% here that voted for President Bush understand this FACT! taylor would not be a Congress-critter if the Republicans would put some money behind a viable candidate.

Trent Lott has become an embarrassment. I heard he was spouting off at an Ole Miss game -- bragging about Scruggs being his brother-in-law and how they were going to sue the insurance companies and put them out of business. When someone asked him how it would help Mississippians if there is no property insurance available to purchase, he had no answer.
I have heard Mike Moore's name mentioned as a senate candidate. But many others are talking about Scruggs running to fill a vacant Lott seat.
I wrote further up in the thread that one candidate did spend as much as Taylor did, but he still could only get 40% of the vote.
Has Scruggs even run for office before ? If Scruggs gets in there and he tries to buy the nomination out from under Chip Pickering, we WILL lose that seat.
Mississippi's elections in 2006 could be tenious for republicans due to Katrina. Although Barbor has done a terrific job by most accounts(even my lib sister gives him high marks), the tendency for the masses these days, is to blame elected officials for disasters. Look at the whole 911 'investigation'..instead of blaming the terrorists, the country wanted to blame Washington for not protecting them. In NO, after Katrina, instead of blaming mother nature or their own lack of preparedness, the country wanted to blame President Bush or Fema.
One of my biggest problems with Lott, besides being an ineffective leader of the Senate, were some of the land/property rights issues he (and others) abused in order to get the Nissan plant in North Mississippi. When government starts taking land away from it's citizens for the 'greater good', we are playing with the fires of communism. Just my two cents.
"Taylor is a VERY erratic individual. He won't be winning anything statewide. Chip Pickering will be the next Senator."
Heave Ho! Trent to walk the plank. And please take McCain, McHagel, McGrahm etc with you.
I am slap-dab in the middle of Katrina's aftermath. I am living through replacing two homes and a business. There is not one single person that I know that blames anyone for Katrina related losses. Regardless of what the media wants you to think, only leftists that hate us anyway are against Republicans. Mississippi is far to smart to buy into satan's lies!

God bless you in your efforts to rebuild your life. Mississippians have been rock solid through this whole thing(unlike LA.)They definately are made of something stronger than the nanny state dems over in LA. I will take your word on the matter since you are in the middle of it, but the dems and liberals in Mississippi will try their best to make it an issue in 06 & 08..mark my words.
Quit while you're behind Trent.
If he runs, will he be opposed? Doesn't matter by whom, doesn't matter what party. If I have a choice, I will vote for anyone else, just for the principle of voting against this ...
Well, that's all I can say without being banned.
Anyone interested in me running? I'm a Republican, and I believe I've got the right views. Please visit the website for my U.S. Senate exploratory committee at http://www.jamesbroadwater.com and tell me what you think. I'm ready to hear it -- good and bad.
How exactly do you propose to stop the export of American jobs overseas, and do you think we have a high unemployment rate at present?
